New VW Polo

Perhaps, but many of the competing small hatches have made quite radical changes for in recent years. The Civic took a major leap in 2004/5, and the Fiesta made a radical change this year. Opel pumped out quite a looker with the Astra and Corsa, and even Subaru made a radical step into Hatch territory.

Personally I don't think it's a bad thing, but it's a valid point nonetheless.

I see where you coming from, but their changes are needed!

The Civic is typical Honda so their design is warranted.
The new Fiesta is a bit to radical, I think the previous conservative look helped sales in SA, my opinion obviously but even I thought the prev Fiesta looked good, I dont particularly like the new one...

Opel has parenting issues with designers from the US, they have lost their DNA completely. But the cars are very nice looking. Also to point out how the the little hatch was used to design the smaller Corsa.
Im sure Subaru is regretting their move to the Hatch market:p

Its not a bad thing to revamp the look completely, but you will see that the new Fiesta will not do as well as the previous version barring the economic crissis.
I say the Mazda 2 will out sell the new Fiesta, Ford went to bold on the new look and messed it up. Typical Ford.

Did you even read the article? FSI is not old, FSI technology made the RS4 what it is!

Thats the scary part, even though they releasing 1.2 engines:sick: Ill be very surprised if they R115k!

See, I was CORRECT!!!! VWSA go and sell your ancient cr4p somewhere else!

"The fifth-generation Polo will be released in South Africa in the first quarter of 2010. Model line-up has yet to be confirmed, says VWSA, but will probably be broadly similar to that of the previous version with 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol engines and 1.9 and two-litre turbodiesels. "

Lol what they mean is, VWSA (The conservatives cows that they are) will only bring in 5 of the 10 models available.
1 1.4 model, 1 1.6 model 1 small TDi 1 Big TDi and the GTi.
They dont want to bring the 1.2 models and the Bluemotion... but probably will in 2011/12!!!

lol at JK8

Seems this...
No **** you like.

It could been a piece of actual horse turd with wheels bolted onto it and you'd have liked it because it was the new VW Polo.

...was spot on! :p

You work for VW or something :D? Jokes aside you must admit that this is a safe approach by VW when compared to every other major car manufacturer who produces hatches (besides Toyota of cause...whom I still think VW is emulating).

There's nothing wrong with being safe, it gaurantees sales and keeps your share-holders happy...but it's not exactly evolving the motoring world now is it? Guess they moved all the creative designers next door to Audi...

Like i said, it will sell...but likewise Corolla's and Yaris's sell...

It does look nice, the interior looks very "upmarket" stylish and dare I say a little Audi influence:o

Blergh...

That interior looks cramped, monotone and not stylish at all imo. The exterior design is OK but that interior looks like a plastic collector's dream car...

Its not a Bentley, its an entry level car, Ive yet to see a better interior on any entry level car in the current market.

I know I'm always punting them, but have a look at the new SEAT Ibiza. I can definitely see some similarities between the two. Seems like the same engine specs too. Would have loved to see the new Cupra here. Link is for the Ibiza

Kinda makes sense. The very first Polo Playa released in SA was basically a re-badged Seat Ibiza. http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9587&cat=500

That would have done well here....

I'll be the first to admit I'm a huge fan of the brand and am very disappointed that they will not be in the country any longer. I only have the Ibiza 2.0 Sport, but will not consider selling it for any VW.

IMO the Cupra is what the GTI should have been...

Errrrr I have to disagree, I had the option of either one, I went the VW route and im glad I did!
Apart from the pulling out of SA, the Seat just looked ugly inside compared to the GTi.
As for brakes and suspension the Seats is better.

I like the ride on the SEAT way better than the VW's; for some reason every VW I have driven feels too loose. And the power on the Cupra is just unreal.

Most VWs are just that :D

You dont like the look Blue?
The Blue motion is nice aswell, 3.8l/100km:eek:
Yes - the Audi thing - VAG pricing makes them both equal so why not get rid of one.
Also - Blue motion is a pathetic excuse for not going into new exotic technologies like fuel cell, or ZEV, hell even Diesotto is pretty way out.
But watch VWSA release engines from 1982.
And cars for 1974 !
Did you even read the article? FSI is not old, FSI technology made the RS4 what it is!
Again - identity crissis - what are you buying ? A VW or Audi? Hey, it has bits of SEAT in it, and it sucks as much as a Skoda.
What happened to the them introducing the Lupo as a replacement for the Citi?
They faked and lied to us to rip us off, but then again, isn't that what you would expect of Volkswagen.
German cars have always been sleeker and smoother cars and not over the top like others...
Every nation has its good and bad. Did you know they also have hotdog stands in Paris? Germany is no exception, on the one end are the likes of Mercedes and BMW on the other this Nazi born VW thing. God bless Adam Opels soul.

Errrrr I have to disagree, I abandoned the VW route because they are more unreliable than a 80's SA built Ford.

Bottom line - the new Polo is boring - as all other VWs. The hand me down styling and lazy designers with their Porsche 911 mentality is the cause of this. In a few years time we will still read in CAR magazine as people write in to complain about all the issues their new VWs had and after a couple of month the dealer principal said "but that is just how the Polo is".

Just get a Corsa - sad how a cheap commity designed car has become more exciting than the "peoples car". By the way, the "people" buy eastern cars these days cause they are affordable and reliable.

Electric cars are expensive, I doubt VW will introduce it before Audis A1. The Bluemotion is one of the best alternatives for now, unmatched!

You say boring, I say conservative... it keeps with tradition, I dont want a triangular exhaust, I dont want flashy, I dont want weird angles, I dont like headlights that cost R6000 to replace because it forms part of the grill, bonnet and the bumper!

I do agree with JK8 re. Bluemotion. The Polo Bluemotion has fuel consumption as good as, if not better than, anything else currently on the market (in a similar price bracket). Also, Bluemotion models AFAIK feature particulate filters and urea injection to deal with the nastier emissions like NOx and particulates that diesels are known for.

BlueMotion Polo is not as good as a twin-turbo Jaguar XJ.

Get a Mercedes-Benz. You'll look like less of a cock in it than in a VW or Beemer or Audi.

BTW - the European car of the year, Opel Insignia, just got paid a tribute by Mercedes, they are copying the road sign reading technology into the upcoming E-Class.

But no one is ever gonna copy anything VAG.
