Hi All,

With WoW down the crapper, there seems to be light in the form of Amazon's new game called New World, I was part of the alpha and beta and have to say what a fresh breath of air. Loved it, are there any of you who plan on playing when the gates open on the 28th of September? Would be nice to have a SA guild going :).

I only played the open beta last weekend and the way I really know I liked it is the fact that I am honestly missing the fact that I can't login this week. The game has its issues sure but it just felt like a MMORPG, loved experimenting with the different weapon combos, loved the gathering/crafting stuff, gorgeous visuals - exploration was a treat. Oh and best fishing system in any MMO I have ever seen by miles.

The cons for me was combat sometimes seemed a bit iffy, sometimes when I would fire my musket and I was clearly aiming straight at the enemy it would not register a hit, it didn't happen often but it does seem something that is quite fixable so I will tolerate it for now. Also performance was occasionally a bit janky when hitting the towns. The quests are also a bit meh, but that didn't bother me much I would pretty much just use quests as a rough guide as to where to go and really focused more on gathering etc while I was in the area.

Of course, the endgame might fall flat but I reckon I will get at least a good few weeks of enjoyment out of it / and then possibly revisit it at a future date as they flesh things out more. The foundations of the game seem real solid to me so yeah I am keen if there are any plans for a SA guild.

Keen on getting into it, how's the gameplay with 230+ ping though?
I had 180ish ms ping, seemed fine. The performance issues I did notice weren't really latency related that I could tell. I think you have to be somewhat forgiving of the game early on though being a new MMO, but I certainly found it fun.

Did you play on EU Central? My SO who lives in Netherlands had like 60-90ms and she normally gets like 15ms in World of Warcraft, the New World servers was quite horrendous. Felt really bad playing on 210-230ms, that is why I am super hesitant to buy this game, with that ping the PVP was so bad, like playing PowerPoint presentation (not that bad) but if you start to play for end game and you missing your hits on the player due to over 70-80ms increase on the normal EU ping, can be quite devastating and triggering, and I can see a lot of South Africans dropping the game.

I'm sorry I don't remember which server it was exactly, I simply looked at the ping and took the one with the lower number. Did your SO play during closed beta or during the open beta ? I believe there were some improvements made performance wise between closed and the open beta, but I never played the closed beta so this isn't personal experience. I would imagine competetive PvP might be frustrating even with a decent ping because of mechanics like headshot = guaranteed crit, that said the hitbox seems quite big you don't have to be as precise as in say a FPS game. PvE is likely way less frustrating since mobs tend to have predictable movement. I am mostly a PvE player but do enjoy PvP in a casual sense.

Thought I would share this link that could help with choosing the right server if you want to avoid the streamers and their minions:

I was pretty keen to purchase this but seems there are some seriously long ques to get into the game, probably best to wait a few days.

Well, post any local streamers who are streaming the launch, so we can show support.

Normal mmo launch day . Don't remember any mmo launch without that issue.

I will try to get in later again.

Sadly this is what happens when you bring one region online before the others, everyone and their dog currently trying to log in so that they can create their character in the hopes to reserve their name.

What server are you guys joining? Just purchased the game, will probably log in over the next few days to start.

Trying to join currently. Playing on EU Central, Vainola.

Currently number 1702 in the queue. Started at 1834 about 10 minutes ago. Was fortunate enough to crash in the opening cinematic, after creating my character. Good times.

Queued for two hours, got to 1 in the queue, as it hit zero, it said unable to join, please rejoin the queue.

Tried a different, lower population server and it was fine after that. Enjoying it so far. It lacks some features but they will get there I'm sure.

10/10 Best Queue Simulation
