news.is.co.za connection problem

I get a reply when I ping news.is.co.za but Grabit says "unable to connect". what could the problem be?

Need to create a new server on grabit. Exactly the same as the previous one, happens sometimes to me. Dont know why.
Then select all the files (ctrl A) and go to "download with server" , there will be 2 news.is.co.za, choose the top one (the new one create)

Remember to make the amount of server 5.

No problem for me, only happens sometimes but then I just do what I told testerman

Ag dis 'n plesier teraside.

Het baie hulp hier nodig gehad met binaries en nzb's toe ek van die newsservers gehoor het.

Another question, I don't see a continuous speed in the download speed window, I have been getting spikes, some a minute apart. Any idea why.

r there any other servers on IS backbone.

The IS news server is not know to be very stable, but I mean it's free and i have pulled over 10gigs from it this month. Just keep retrying, best to download after business hours, and check if it's cached by using http://www.newshost.za.net/ service.

Another hint use http://www.binsearch.info/ to browse or search for binaries, and then download the .nzb files for free!

I have been using 4 connections for a month or 2 but in changed it to 5 a few days ago, after the problems started.

I never got any errors with the spikes. Just a 2 to 3 spikes a 100kbps connection for a second or so and then 0kbps for a minute or so.

This morning I started a new download and I was getting an almost continuous connection, much better than before and at good speeds, 100 to 150kbps. I left for work so I don't know how it is going at the moment but I guess it is just one of those unexplained mysteries. BTW my other downloads, torrents, etc. worked fine, no interruptions.

Hey, the news server may suck, but it is certainly good enough considering what we pay for it... I've downloaded about 30Gb from it so far this month, mostly uncached stuff. I ain't complaining. Faster might be nice, but at least the job gets done.

Anyway, as for getting nzb files, I prefer the interface onhttp://www.newzleech.com to binsearch.info, and it is also free. You can register with them (for free as well), and search posts instead of just newsgroups. The posts are basically people who have found all the bits and pieces in the newsgroups, put them together, and submitted a post to newzleech with a proper description and category. Don't always find everything you're looking for there, but certainly much more pleasant to search through than the basic newsgroup listings like binsearch gives, and newzleech can give those too if you can't find what you want in the posts.

Its pretty useless if the stuff's not cached
