News Server DL using much more Data than it should

Maybe it's an error in the history?
Otherwise you need to take a look at the logs to see what is going on.

* Sorry, I don't know the software at all.

Again, thanks for the help.

I'm fairly sure it's not that the file is being DL'd more than once. I spent most of the weekend checking on the progress and getting more and more frustrated as the estimated completion time just keeps on getting extended. Originally the estimated time for the 190MB jobs is about 3hrs, but as you can see it takes about 12.

I've also looked at the pieces when the job was in the queue and the pieces were all only there once and I didn't see anything that shouldn't be there. So I don't think it's the NZB

Of course I may be wrong about the above two because I'm new at this, but because of the above my current hypothesises are:

1: Stuff is DL'ing but losing connection before completion and so having to start again, over and over many many times
2: Having 2 Servers is confusing to SABnbzd+ and it is DL'ing the same piece from both servers (but then it would only double it)
3: Too many different Threads (I have it set to maximum because I thought that if 1 was better than 2 the most would be best)
4: Gnomes!

Do any of these make any sense? Bearing in mind I don't know anything about how this stuff actually works.

Using 7 servers here,2 threads per so (2) and (3) are invalid,1 doesn't make much sense as articles are a few KB per article and then reassembled once parts are completed

On Thundernews I'm allowed 45 connections, so I'm using 45, that's significantly more than your 2 per server.

2 per is maxxing out the downloads so i'm in no rush to increase the threading and you may want to try the following:

1) Drop the threadcount way down
2) Download the latest SABNzbd ( 0.6.9 as of time of writing )
3) Use the Smpl skin for an easier view of what's going on

I will try each of those 3 as soon as I get home and report back.

If that doesn't work does anyone know any good gnome hunters / exterminators?

Another thing you can try, is to download a test binary using a test nzb.

Definately, upgrade your sabnzb to latest version.

Use one server only to test, using sab's default config.

This will save you time and bandwidth till you locate the problem.

Below is a link to a binary, with a properly formatted nzb. When I searched it was number 2 on the list.
The binary is in alt.binaries.test, posted by user "Mattie"
The binary shows 19.9MB in sabnzb queue and after downloading you should see exactly this:
Code:
oscar@wolf:/mov/tmp/testfile$ ls -l
total 20024
-rw-r--r-- 1 oscar oscar 20485760 2011-09-26 18:57 testfile
-rw-r--r-- 1 oscar oscar 7213 2011-09-26 18:57 testfile.nzb
-rw-r--r-- 1 oscar oscar 1508 2011-09-26 18:57 testfile.par2
-rw-r--r-- 1 oscar oscar 150 2011-09-26 18:57 testfile.sfv

Just tick the checkbox after doing the search, then hit "create nzb", save it somewhere, and add it to your queue, then download and see if it behaves, or not.

Code:
http://www.binsearch.info/?q=testfile.nzb&max=100&adv_age=26&server=

If you are getting more than +- 20 MB download, there is something amiss with your sabnzbd version.

(No, never run any unknown binaries on a windows machine, just check the file sizes. Yes, this may break your machine. Yes, I have tested it myself. No, it will not solve your problem, but it will help find it :-)

Thanks for all the help guys.

Changing to only 2 connections per server has solved my problem. Also, during the night the bandwidth fairy visited and I was upgraded to 1024, yay.

Again thanks for the help... and I was so looking forward to some Gnome pelts!
