Hey Guys,

I've checked previous posts but can't find info relating to this question re: the news server. If it is out there, then sorry...

A 5.6gig file that i downloaded has disappeared. I got a few "can't connect errors" on some of the articles and maybe it didn't finish properly but then where has the file gone... Another file I d/l also had some errors...

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

BTW: I've got a 384 line but get speeds of 250+... How does this work?
 
You are using a poor news reader.
The one I used that was recommended by newshost is rubbish.

Use newsbinpro.

Thats like asking "I changed the web address to www.news24.co.za, but where in the browser do I change it from Firefox to Opera?"

You need to get a whole new news reader.

Come on guys... Help him out. :D

I hope more people realise the value of getting a 30 gig or more local account for cheap cheap and then using services like this news server in question for binaries. Are there any folks from newshost? I'd like to see them support their site functions right here...
 
Lots of files get errors, just download them again if there aren't enough blocks to repair them from the pars files.
Was the 5.6 gig file split up in rars? the later versions of grabit have an auto repair and extract feature, maybe it's extracted the file somewhere?
 
I like Grabit because you can set it to decode, unrar and then delete source files automatically. Not sure if any other readers have this functionality?
 
I have used newsbinpro for almost two years. Done easily 600GB on it - and have yet to lose a file.

And if anyone uses news groups and does not know what a PAR2 is, then FIND OUT! They are a godsend.

I've done a similar amount off easynews alone, mostly with grabit, and without file loss. Nothing wrong with that app.

Easynews though.
Grabit worked fine for me off of Giganews - it struggled with ISnews though. Newsbin Pro gave up with IS News - I think Grabit accepts the mega loss from IS and looks as if it is working, when it aint.

I cannot talk from any more authority, as I have given up on IS - the loss is too much.
 
nope why i like grabit is its very user friendly

never had a problem with it either

i think that first time users should all use grabit first because its very easy then if they wish they can try newzbin

par's are very important, i always download them just in case :)

given up on IS plz man, i download all uncache stuff at like 9-13kbs which is fine, then cached files at 400kbs :)

i dont mind downloading my 30-40 gigs at a slow pace

You will notice if you search my post on IS, that I was always a supporter of them - I was one of the first people to promote them here. Lately though, its a disaster. I just pay the R70 a month for giganews and download from them (of course, I am lucky to have uncapped DSL).

I'm using grab-it currently and out of the 50ish articles it only downloaded 40... The others are just unavailable.
 
o yes do this man

go to edit preferences click the advanced tab make sure automatically retry items in batch is ticked


yea only download/import .nzb files as code has said

i was once a noob to and tried downloading articles lol didnt work out so well

lol - yeah: and never download the newsheaders etc - wow what a waste of time.

I will check tonight and get the latest version if I don't have it already. I followed the link from the newshost website and then downloaded it...

Thanks for the assistance guys.:D I'm going to retry it tonight...
