Newzbin / NZBMatrix alternative recommendations

I have an unlimited Newsdemon account and do all searching and downloading through Newsbin Pro. Downloads are usually around line speed any time of day on my Mweb uncapped account, and as long as you avoid unusual group names and scammy usernames the risk of password locked files is massively reduced.

I honestly don't have time to manually search things..
I need everything to work in couch potato automatically :(

can anyone help modifying my CP setup to work perfectly?

If you have time to use a PC you definitely have time to take 15 seconds to search for stuff. How many series do you watch? I watch a fair few and there are seldom more than 3 new episodes to download on any one day. Just limit the search to the last day's uploads and type the series name and there will probably only be 4 options.

Also been getting loads of failed DL's on the movie front :wtf:

I've been using giganews as my Usenet provider for ages now, but I see Astraweb is quite popular these days. Is one better than the other or are they pretty much the same?

It's the quality of the nzb, not the servers imo.

lol you're kidding me, right?

nah, i'll just add the series name to sickbeard and when it airs, I get it - I don't want to keep track of which of my shows airs when.
I also add movies I want to watch to my IMDB playlist, and when it comes out Couch Potato will get it for me. I don't have time to research what dates DVDs are released.

It just seems weird to me that you watch so much stuff that you can't manually download it all, yet 30 seconds a day to start a few downloads is too much. I use an Android app to remind me when episodes I care about air. How does Couch Potato decide which copy of a movie to download?

Simple, you choose the quality when adding the show. SD or HD.
Or you can also use custom quality settings (SD TV, SD DVD, 720p HDTV, 720p WEB-DL, 720p BluRay, 1080p BluRay)

It seems weird to me that you pay for Newsbin Pro, need to be reminded when they air, and then need to manually search them.
Why not automate it all? seriously man you are wasting time, effort and money.

You tell it what quality you want, dvd, blu ray, cam etc and can set size parameters for each, as well as preferred words, required words and ignored words. Pretty much can fine tune it to certain release groups if you want

It's not the site, just too much failed downloads, particularly older or rare.

I'm not talking about the downloads, I have not even got that far yet. Just finding stuff is a fscking mission, with nzbmatrix this was a breeze.

I briefly looked into using SABnz or whatever it is but the interface was horrible, and I couldn't find a nice search provider. Newsbin Pro has the best interface and most functional search I've ever used.

Don't worry. When the penny drops, it will drop hard. Most of us were where you are now. ;) Resistance is futile.

Nothing wrong with Newsbin Pro, it's awesome to use for downloads.
But for Series/Movies it just can not compete with the SAB + SB + CP trinity unfortunately.

I'd recommend you give Sickbeard another shot mate, really I do.
You may even be able to pass the NZBs to Newsbin Pro too, if you hate SAB so much.... (if Newsbin Pro supports "Blackhole Directories", that is)

I find the interface great, but then different strokes.

How exactly does one add newztown into Sickbeard? I tried adding it as a custom search provider but I continuously get errors saying the RSS feed syntax is wrong. I have no idea what I'm doing here.

I added the URL as http://newztown.co.za and I also tried their RSS link in there.

I also tried adding the API for the full site in there, but still get the same problem. Can someone help me out here, please?
