Nexiam generic

oh god i have now just read this nexium. hubby has had the scope done and he has a huge hernia. we have just finished at the doctor and he has prescribed this nexium for 3 months to see if this maybe helps. hubby has developed this god awful cough that he is no longer breathing for a few seconds. on sunday i thought it was all over for him the way the coughing and non breathing was going on. he is now on an asthma pump as well to assist with the tightness of his chest as well. the doctor said that 90% of patients who take nexium will go back and opt for the surgery because the nexium only alleviates the symptoms a bit. i'm not hopeful any longer after reading some of these comments, especially the fact that it causes depression etc.

I was swallowing a Nexiam pill every three days. I had a gastrocopy done about 7 years ago and was diagnosed with a Hiatus Hernia. In my quest to lose weight I was put on a diet 6 months ago. I have maybe needed to pop a Nexiam pill about 5 times since I started the diet.

depression .... no the disease does that. Anyways your hubby has a hernia. Only surgery will help him

no - have you seen the after effects of the surgery. gas build up, can't throw up etc etc etc. there are too many side effects of this surgery. this is not like a normal surgery like having your appendix out now is it. also just learned he can't take the nexium because he has had hepatitis in 1997 and this pill is no good once you've had hepatitis. so he is going to stick to the altacec, however you spell it.

Those things dont work forever. PPIs are used for symptomatic relief, they will not solve anything (in this case). Surgery is a risk you must decide whether the risk is worth it or you live with your condition. That are your options

I suffer from IBS and Gerd myself. my God its horrible. i went for a scope via the mouth and rear last year and doc said i had a slight gerd and prescribed altosec. i changed to something called tolsac, i can't remember the name. i'm going crazy myself. sometimes i also think i'm losing it.

must try something else. how often should a person go for scopes again.
my throat is sore all the time. i've sinustis as well and the post nasal dip is killing me.
i need all the help in the world i can get.

i get depressed too. using librax as well

@Mike did not know you suffer from this as well buddy

I went through a year of Nexium and some generic version later when the Nexium did not work.
I was on 40mg in the AM and 40mg in the evening. The stuff made me go mental - literally. Confusion reigned. Read up on the side affects - I had them all.

I eventually had enough and asked my Dr (Zaidi or something at Linksfield) to do the op. He hummed and haaad and said 50/50 chance of it working with xyc potential problems afterwards. I never saw him again. No prepared to let someone op on me that is only half sure it will work.

A friend recommended Prof Van der Walt in Pretoria. I went to see him end of last year. Told him about the concerns I had based on what my previous Dr told me and he chuckled.
He gave me his stats. 95% success rate with 3% returns. Good enough for me so I went for it.
Note: He diagnosed my hiatus hernia as one of the largest he had ever seen.

My life is different now because of this Dr. I hold him in the highest regard. He really knows his stuff.
I am 100% back to normal. Zero, zilch, nada of the original symptoms that eventually ended up with the diagnosis.

He is however not cheap. Make sure you have medical aid, gap cover and deep pockets if you see him. It is worth it to spend the money on a Dr that knows what he is doing and is confident in his own procedures.

Another plus was a 10kg weight loss during the recovery diet period :)
Oh - and I can munch all the chilli I want again :D

EDIT : My bad. Never realised that I had already explained half of my post elsewhere in the same thread. Getting old it seems.
Well at least you have the complete story now

SufferED bud. Life is rosy again. Part of the 95% success rate  Cruising since March :p

Depression is one of the things I also suffered from on Nexium and the generic. It was baaaad. I am not the type to get depressed and had never experienced it before. This depression k@k made me more depressed about being depressed.
Worse was the confusion and forgetfulness. Sometimes I could not remember where to park when going to see a client I saw everyday. Even forgot where I was going sometimes when travelling to a client. Stuck on the R24 in traffic and suddenly finding myself wondering what I was doing there. Thankfully it was also temporary and lasted about 5 mins, but the experience was terrible. No meds for me. Find a Dr that knows what he is doing and get it fixed.

Funny how we all react do different hey :D

With Nexiam, acid production was reduced so much my stomach contents came right back up to my throat. The irritation was so bad I felt like I was about to have a great attack.

Not to mention the mind phucking. I did not know what was going on half the time. And to top it off, horrible bouts of depression - and I am not a depressive type of person at all. Life sucked as I had basically all the dude effects.

When I get into bed at night, sometimes I have excess acid creep up and that where Gaviscon sorts me out and I can go to sleep. Otherwise I have to sleep almost upright.

Lol! Swype or swiftkey?

dude effects, epic.

great attack. :P

Sorry, you can go back to discussing actual topical things now.

librax is used to 'kill' the brain to GIT link. Its a temp solution and does not work well.

You probably dont have IBS if you suffering from GORD, constipation, diarrhea, nausea in waves. Also if you go to the toilet 3-4 times a day or feel the need for it. Especially if your scopes are clear. Repeating these scopes arent going to do anything.

I would say you need to consult some one for food intolerance.

Also you need to check out your gall bladder. If your scopes are clear and IBS treatment is not working and laboratory results are negative then you should investigate further. See another specialist, you might need an abdominal CT to exclude stuff. Ive come across something like this before. Poor girl was diagnosed with IBS for 5 years specialist after specialist after specialist then eventually one guy went further.

I purchased the generic in Mauritius. I bought almost 2 years supply. It was R60 for a months course :D
* I have a slight acidic stomach. Has the scope done.

How do you differenciate the 2 from each other. I was in hospital with stomach issues and was diagnosed with IBS. I also did a lactose intolreance test, which confirmed that i was lactose intolerent. I do go frequently to the toilet and get the burning feeling as well.

I will have to go and check out my gall bladder to see if everything is ok. i do get the regular back pains as well which is very uncomfortable. I am not constipated, but it does flair up now and then. The tablet i used was Topzole for the GERD.

I have a hernia in the groin area as well, so i need to get it done soon as it pains when its cold.

hmmm ... You seem like a really complex case. Im not comfortable advising you on a course of action over a forum.

What I can say is find a another specialist and tell them about this. Try and make an appointment with a professor from a medical school they are usually the best of the best.

You can start by striping your diet down. Carry a little pocket book and note down everything you eat. Be as healthy as its humanly possible and slowly add things to your diet until it flares.

Finally you will need a referal for radiology but I dont want to make think you HAVE to go for a CT scan, they are very expensive. Just mention it to the specialist next time you see one. Drs tend to forget the rare and arb cases and you cant blame them sometimes its a thing that they have never seen before a 1 in 10 million cause ... but you never know you could be that one

to put it bluntly

I dont know how to differentiate between the two. I just know one of my patients was in a similar situation its completely anecdotal, however since you puzzling for a solution it might be worth finding out

I have immense heartburn at times and can sometimes wake up at night with a furious inferno in my stomach and overflown into my esophagus. I am gluten-intolerant, so that is the biggest culprit for setting my heartburn off, but also sugar. So I keep away from those things as much as I can. Fatty foods and chilli also bring on the stomach rage. I also have a high stress job that requires me to be "on my toes".

I can easily consume between 4 and 10 antacids a day. Then my dearest mother tells me a wives tale and says go drink lemon water, specifically in the morning before eating or going to work. At that point I did not realised how alkaline lemon actually is.

Anyway I tried it mostly because I love lemon taste, so I put two fingers worth of lemon juice in a glass, filled it up with tap water and went on my day. Packed my box of Eno's too.

Got to the end of the day and was amazed that I had not opened the pack of Eno's :D

So I carried on with my new morning ritual for four days now and have not needed to take an antacid. Yesterday I indulged in a delicious donut and felt the slight rise in acidity in my stomach. Expecting the rage to come shortly, I was surprise when it didn't. SCORE!

Lemon water for the win!!! It has lots of other benefits apparently.

Not sure if it would help if you have a hernia but give it a go, you never know! :o

Ok I am recovering from the hernia OP. not that painful though, but it damn does take some time to heal. Seeing the specialist tomorrow to see how the recovery is going. No physical stuff at all or pickup anything at all. Will see how it goes. The GERD is still their with my post nasal drip which is also upsetting the stomach triggering the IBS as well. I also see mucus in my stools which is to be expected.

I used Nexiam for a couple of days and it feels like a miracle drug. No symptoms at all, but it made me constipated. Will have to use the Nexiam when it's acting up.

Will try the the lemon juice and see what results it brings. Some people also recommended apple cider juice works as well.
