Next iPhone will use face recognition security

Android's already done that, though it was apparently easy to open with a photo.

Maybe very old implementations of it, but the new droids use infrared scanning for the eyes too, so much harder to bypass. A photo won't do it anymore.

Didn't know that, I know there was a Samsung that came out that could be fooled with a photo, then the face rec stopped for awhile, possibly cause of this. I think it was the S4, I never used it personally and haven't seen it on any other brand.

Didn't see the S8 get fooled like this? Or was it patched?

But why? Except for a small percentage of people either without fingers so no prints, or with no prints for other reasons, resting a finger on the phones home button is a natural action.

Apparently they were having technical issues implementing the touch sensor on the new one. iPhone 8 doesn't have a Home buttons so they were trying to do it via the screen but having issues, apparently.

Say you were in a bad car wreck or got the crap beaten out of you. What do you if you have facial lock on?

Cool idea to use the face.

My Lumia 950 XL uses iris scan with infra-red camera, since October 2015.
Yep. I got the Lumia 950 (not XL) and use it daily. My also use it daily on her Surface Pro 4, and I will most certainly also use it once I receive my Surface Pro at the end of this month.

The S8 was easily fooled - It is Samsung after all :D

I do believe that they have patched it since though.

Not patched. It's two different things.

You can lock the phone with pattern, pin, password, fingerprint, facial recog, or iris scanning.

I use a combination of PIN, Fingerprints and Iris.

'Droids had it since 2015 already just Apple playing catchup again.

I had it on a Sony Xperia and it was dreadful, I stopped using it after a week.

It took like 10 seconds to recognize your face, the password was much faster.

Assume that the infrared trick will work in dark environments.

Not nice to have several ne'er-do-wells outside your house and you not able to unlock your phone in order to summon assistance.

correct, the IR iris scanner only really works in doors or at night outdoors. Outdoors in sunlight it's almost completely useless, hence I love the fact that with Samsung I have the option of 3 different unlock methods, and I can pick one based on scenario at the time.
