Hi,

As indicated on our site as well, all new accounts come with an 7 day trial period after which it is up to the user to activate the type of subscription they wish to use (either prepaid time, or prepaid GBs).

If you I vite an friend whom activates a paid subscription, you receive an additional 7 days free access on you account as well.

I hope this clears it up :-)

Hi Morph69,

If the articles are still available at our Tier 1's that we peer with (and it should be), then yes you will be able to get them. Unfortunately, the best way to see is to just try and download it and see whether it's successfull or not. Unfortunately there's no way to determine what is, and isn't available. We should easily be able to retrieve articles as old as 1,600+ days, depending on what has been DMCA'd and what hasn't.

No fair usage policy, I think that most ISPs already took care of most of that stuff. We're not here to add MORE red tape to our users. We will however be introducing an registration policy in terms of the 7-day trial, and duplicate accounts. We've already had quite a few registrations that was registered in ways to 'bypass' our validation and in doing so to get multiple accounts, and/or multiple trial periods. Accounts found registered in this manner, will be deleted on the spot, no questions asked (especially in terms of fake or email forwarding email addresses). If you as a user play fair, we as a company will play fair as well (there is at the end of the day, operating costs which we need to paid).

Hopefully this clears it up a bit better :)

yes thank you that explains it very clearly and i couldnt agree more :)

Hi,

Created a trial account and it tests fine in sabnzbd - but it doesn't actually grab anything - threadcount on 0.

Have restarted sabnzbd! Any ideas? Newzdemon grabbing without an issue.\

EDIT: It seems I had it setup as a backup server in sabnzbd. WORKING NOW!

Thanks!

Anything in the sab warning or error log?

Is there any advantage to signing up to NextGenNews as opposed to using the built-in ISP newsserver (i.e. news.mweb.co.za, news.is.co.za, news.wa.co.za etc etc)?

Hi Sacoys,

Quite a few from our perspective....
- We do NNTP for our bread and butter. It's our living, our main (and only) source of income. ISPs, provide NNTP as an value added service (i.e. low priority). An outage for us (not that one EVER occurred), is a serious occurance getting immediate attention
- Most ISPs uses old outdated software (such as newscache, delegated, nntpcache, etc.) This old opensource software, is no longer maintained and very unstable under certain circumstances. We write and maintain our software from the ground up, tailored specifically to make it very reliable and to ensure optimal performance
- Allot of ISPs offer an small amount of local storage capacity to cache articles. Whilst content that the ISP caches may be served at full speed, content not cached, is often served very, very slowly. We will max out your line, regardless of what, or when you are downloading. We also offer large amounts of concurrent connections to ensure you get full line speeds, whilst most ISP services only allow 2 or 5 concurrent connections
- We are also operating on highly available clusters of servers behind load balancers. We have no single point of failure, no maintenance outages, no disruptions (within reason, ofcourse)
- Then the biggest benefit, is that unlike other commercial NNTP service providers or ISP free services, we pull our news from multiple sources. This aids tremendiously in terms of finding articles that may have been removed by one provider, but is still available at another provider. We thus, do the searching for you so to speak, and having multiple accounts at multiple providers should no longer be required.

Chris,

During the trial I had very few issues, almost none. This weekend I tried a few..older nzbs for some older shows I like to archive, which seems to not exist on either my ISP server news.is.co.za nor nextgennews. They however pull 100% fine from tweaknews.

The other problem I have is an ISP based one, where news.is.co.za seems to be full speed right now since 8am, but anything international is dead slow downloads wise.

Currently testing an openweb silver priority account.

Hi Tinuva,

I'm on TI (4Mbps), getting full speed as I type this... I realise that the speeds may be influenced by ISP shaping, and unfortunately, as you know there isn't allot that WE can do about that per say - if the ISP doesn't have enough international transit and elects to impose limits on it's users, is it out of our control. At best, we can play with the ports and open up more / additional SSL enabled ports, but my gut is telling me that this won't be any good based on a long term solution.

The only thing can I can say to address this, is that the services WILL become hosted locally in South Africa, when there is enough users to justify the cost. There is a break even point, we do have milestones, and I SERIOUSLY want to roll out our services in Teraco, on our own ASN (which, again as you know, will have drastic improovements due to local peering). However, I cannot stress this enough, we cannot do this without the support of the community.

We need in excess of 250 - 300 paid subscriptions per month in order to break even with our costs and can get to the point that we can actually make money and re-invest into local infrastructure (obtaining ASN, network kit, colocation, etc). We need in excess of 1,500 to 2,000 paid subscriptions in order to consider having our own private International transit (however - there are ways in which we can minimize the impact / requirement here).

I will address the other part of your query via PM - I feel it will be more suited there.

I will be buying a paid sub within the next 2 days as most of the files are coming thru successfully compared to newshosting.
thank you, I am satisfied with the 7 day trial.

Nice, I will give it a try.
I quickly compared the prices and it seems good.

Well my previous problem is now resolved, and the files are coming thru successfully, albeit slowly, but that is the ISP shaping on this account.

Hi,

The same files that fail on Newzdemon fail on NextGenNews. I was under the impression that you peered with multiple providers.

e.g.:

Giganews, AstraWeb, ReadNews, TweakNews.

HOWEVER if I pull from Tweaknews manually the download works. Much like another poster above me.

Any input?

Thanks,
J

Hi Jsheed,

I've had a look through our logs and your latest connections did not indicate any missing articles. If you where referring to items downloaded a while ago (i.e. this morning or over the weekend), we have only recently enabled our pull feeds from Tweaknews.

As we state on our KB article, feeds are constantly added & removed as deemed neccessary. It could well have been that your articles failed to download prior to us having the uplink feed in place.

Many thanks

Hi Morph,

Aren't you able to get your max line speed with 20 concurrent connections? I don't have an problem in principal with upping the limit, I'm just a tad surprised that this is the case...

Drop me a PM with your account details so that we can have a look at what's happening...

hmm just realized why I was getting corrupt errors by the truckload....those were 1200+ days articles, well beyond the promised 3 years retention. My bad. :o

Savage do you know whether AVS is enabled on the payment gateway? I want to try out my new virtual CC, but if AVS is used then thats not going to fly.

Man I hope the SABnzb devs hurry up with the server priority work.
