Nicknames can be a funny thing and they often evolve over time. My 'flanders' nick dates back to highschool days and has absolutely nothing to do with the Simpsons character. The number of variants and iterations my friends and even family refer to me by are staggering. But that's a different story altogether.
My S.O. and I refer to one another almost purely by nicknames.
I used to affectionately refer to her as 'sweety pie' some years back but then it evolved. Actually, according to her, it "de-volved". At some point I was joking around and was putting on a heavy Bramley/Highlands North type accent. You know, like when you speak to the mechanic and you ask how much the job will be and he replies by telling you "nah, it's gunna be laark faav greend 'ay!". So, there I was rambling in my mechanic accent and her nickname came out as 'sweety paaw' because as you would imagine, if said mechanic went to the shop to buy a savoury snack, his request would be for a 'staaik end kidney paaw'. Guess what...it stuck.
So these days I simply call her 'paaw'...or phoenetically, 'paah'.
Odd? Weird? Strange? Probably - but some of the names she has for me more than makes up for it!
