Nintendo launches cheaper Switch gaming console

You have to compare game consoles, that's what everyone does. Nintendo Switch created the expectation before release that it could stand it's ground against the PS4 & XB1, just to eventually realize they were bulshtting everyone as it wasn't true. I for one was very keen on the Switch too, until I had to realize that the type of games available is not my cuppa tea and that the resolutions are very crap. A friend of mine in fact sold his one to subsides a new PS4 Pro.

But my point is that is makes no difference whether you compare the consoles.

The Switch may have weak hardware but it still has a bunch of exceptionally good exclusive Nintendo games. The millions of people who play Zelda, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Super Mario, Smash Bros etc. cannot play those games on any other console.

It's a different type of experience to PlayStation and Xbox. Anyone buying a Switch should know that.

Sony was already planning the ending of Vita before Switch came on the scene, due to the success of it's PS4 & PSVR consoles. The Vita released in December 2011 and the Switch only in March 2017!!!!!!!!!

You are aware that Nintendo has had handhelds since 1989, the Vita went against the DS series which dominated the market.

I'm specifically referring to the Switch which released in 2017. Granted the DS and perhaps the Switch do dominate the handheld market. Sony is dominating the PS4 market by far, including it's VR. In comparison the resolutions are just crappy and the performance of some games very laggy

The Gamecube was actually slightly better in spec over the PS2 but it was limited by hardly any 3rd party games, technically the N64 was superior to the PS1 but it did come out about a year or so after.

Considering they make the PS4 I'm glad they dominated it ;-). But you mean the 8th generation market, yes they are dominating it. Microsoft made some hectic blunders with the One initially which hurt things quite a bit.

It’s a misconception that Switch was weak when it launched though. As a mobile device it was faster than anything we had seen before. I was blown away when I could play something like BOTW in a $300 handheld tablet with no compromises.

The best way to play GC and Wii now is the Dolphin emulator, in my opinion. You can play the games in 4k with updated graphics packs and a ton of other tweaks. Dolphin is even the best way to play emulated N64 games.

Well, of course you are *legally* required to own the games before you play them on an emulator, so I wouldn't advise you to use any readily available methods to obtain the ROMs.

Then you hadn't looked into the Switch and Nintendo culture enough before developing such a keenness. There was never any chance of Nintendo's console entering the PS4 vs. XB1 vs. PC fight. For years they've been doing something entirely different. The games don't need much in the way of horsepower, and the excellent first-party titles are cartoony and suitable for children. All the best third-party games are sidescrolling/2D platformers and cartoony games, because they don't need much hardware either.

Nintendo will probably never show an interest in taking on PlayStation and Xbox. They've been more than successful at their current strategy.

I was really looking for Vita in the form of a Switch, but it never happened, ffs. If Nintendo can match ps4 & XB1 tomorrow with hardware and similar AAA games, I'll buy it in an instant.

PS3 games had to be severely cut down to work on the Vita. And Switch has a ton of AAA games; some are cut down a lot like Doom but that’s what you’ll always get with a handheld console.
