Nintendo launches cheaper Switch gaming console

As much as I enjoy the Xbox, there is something about a Nintendo game that you can't get elsewhere. Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii was a blast. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm bored of shooting things. I just want games that are fun.
That said, would rather still get the standard Switch

I'm not talking about a pro model. The regular Switch has to receive a spec bump soon - Nintendo literally cannot rely on the current Tegra chip being manufactured much longer. That's how old it is.

Also, I'm not opposed to Nintendo's general model of low powered hardware. The Tegra X1 is something of an exception however. It is truly a piece of garbage. Once the SoC has been updated by Nintendo you should see the performance of all titles benefit and the system UI become more responsive.

When the Switch hardware was first announced I knew I would not be able to stomach the purchase of a Tegra X1-powered device. So I'm just saying I'm looking forward to the inevitable hardware refresh.

If the lousy battery life gets a boost too then that's a cherry on top.

Fair enough, I get your point. To me it seems a bit of an odd condition for buying a console or not, I just play the games that are available for it and as I said earlier, anything other than the standard Nintendo fare is a bonus.

But it looks like the bump is on the way soon enough...

It's a portable console. That's what I'm try to get you to understand but it went right over your head.
 
I will definitely purchase one. Perfect size for my travels the normal version was just to big for my opinion. It is a great stress reliever!

True, but surely the argument for taking a gaming device on a commute is to alleviate boredom and not do serious gaming.

Anyway, PS has the Vita.
 
The problem with the Switch is that you abandon your pc and console. It's sad but I can't be bothered to boot either anymore especially in winter it's too cold. The Switch slips into bed with me and with earphones my wife doesn't mind. In the past I would sit in the cold dark living room alone like a creep while my wife sleeps.

And those lovely Saturday mornings on the throne squeezing out some quality morning play time. If it's not on the Switch I probably won't get around to playing it.

A "Lite" version is just fine, just a pity that you can't dock it every now and again for couch coop

And it will continue to gather dust until Sword and Shield comes out. The portability factor doesn't really mean anything for me. Usually when I'm out of the house I have better things to do like hanging out with other people, drinking or other activities. Playing games is the last thing on my mind.

Truth be told I have no idea why I even bought the thing. Too much bitcoin burning a hole in my pocket during the 2017 bubble probably. :p

Different strokes and all that. /shrug

You're single right or don't live with your gf? Old enough to have gotten the original nes & Gameboy when it came out? (Im making alot of assumptions, I apologise in advance. Just something I picked up with some of my friends)

I think it makes sense for us old ballies with kids now who are nostalgic for the Nintendo ips.

I think I would own a PS4 exclusively if I was single. With a wife and kids you kinda have to game between chores, home maintenance, schools runs etc etc. I literally don't have a moment to fart let alone boot up a PS4 and plonk down on a couch. But I still want to game.

Single yes but not that old. I'm old enough to have gotten the Gameboy Color when it came out, but even then I was a little kid. The Gameboy Advance was the first "proper" Nintendo experience for me if I can put it like that.

Because it is objectively silly to claim that the Switch isn't worth the money, regardless of whether it's being compared to other consoles.

The Switch has some incredibly good exclusive games, a very unique form factor that may suit people better than a conventional console and a unique gaming culture that some consumers simply prefer.

As someone whose only purchase of a Nintendo console is the Gameboy Pocket and who has a fairly minimal interest in all things Nintendo, even I can see that it is impossible to discredit the value proposition of the Switch.

You have to compare game consoles, that's what everyone does. Nintendo Switch created the expectation before release that it could stand it's ground against the PS4 & XB1, just to eventually realize they were bulshtting everyone as it wasn't true. I for one was very keen on the Switch too, until I had to realize that the type of games available is not my cuppa tea and that the resolutions are very crap. A friend of mine in fact sold his one to subsides a new PS4 Pro.

Sony had the Vita, they don't do handhelds anymore. Was dominated by Nintendo.

Sony was already planning the ending of Vita before Switch came on the scene, due to the success of it's PS4 & PSVR consoles. The Vita released in December 2011 and the Switch only in March 2017!!!!!!!!!
