Nintendo plans new Switch games

Nintendo Co.’s Switch gaming console is in the middle of its life cycle and the company is preparing to give it a boost with a large injection of new games in the next year and beyond. [Bloomberg]

They say that but I haven't seen any floods of games coming out. I suspect they're lining up content for the next-gen Switch in 2021.

I'd imagine the beefed up Switch would only drop in 2022, perhaps March again.

When did developers get the instruction to make 4K ready games? I don't think they are in any rush to get out the new model while the existing one is selling so well

Rumors are getting pretty strong for 2021

The reason for them to launch is obvious, the Switch is competing in the same market as PS5 and XSX for game ports, and it isn't going to happen if they don't upgrade their machine. Can't come fast enough for me, I can tell you.

I've been waiting for v2 of the Switch since it launched. No way I'm buying the current potato - at least not at our appalling local prices. I haven't checked pricing in a while, but the Switch has been more expensive locally than the base PS4 despite being $100 cheaper in the US. The Core group can truly burn in hell.

You're missing out on some amazing games

That remains to be seen. People said the same about PS4 and I got massively burned with the PS4 Pro. Bought it and literally all the top rated exclusives around the time RDR2 released. The only two games I enjoyed were RDR2 and Horizon, both of which eventually hit PC.

I would only use the Switch in docked mode, so it makes sense to wait for some horsepower given how janky current visuals and framerates are.

That same argument can be made each generation about the upcoming consoles until you eventually die never have bought a console as you were waiting for the next big one.

I'm a huge fan of Nintendo consoles, so I'll probably buy a switch eventually, but only when Switch v2 comes out. No point in buying now.

I own a backlight modded GBA, DS Lite, DSi and 3DS. I'm kind of sad that the DS line died, but I'll get a switch eventually.

Yeah but I get the case for waiting for an upgraded Switch. Switch is really weak compared to...anything. It's fine if you're mainly playing Nintendo games or indies because the horsepower doesn't matter and they optimize well but I'd say any new ports look like garbage. For me even the Doom port isn't really playable because the resolution is so low.

For a portable console i'd be happy if it performed at OG PS4 levels. Then you could get solid 1080p, 60fps in many games. You always have to temper your expectation with a handheld console. But the rumours of 4k game development are very intriguing, I have no idea how they could manage that.

I don't think Nintendo have ever or will ever see themselves as competing against Sony or MS tbh. Their core audience is not the same group. They develop hardware to enhance their 1st party franchises and key partner devs, not to accommodate the latest AAA from the giants like Ubi / CDP / Acti et al.

The only complaint I have about current switch is the damn seemingly inevitable joycon drift. They messed up on that for me.

I see it more as voting with my wallet. The Switch's specs are bulls**t.

100%, You wait for the beefed up Switch, While I wait for the one after that one.

I buy the stuff at the time I have monies for it and enjoy life when I can. Current Gen Nintendo I have enjoyed Pokemon, BOTW, Pokemon again, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem Tree houses, Xenoblade, Yu Gi Oh... list goes on.

Might even buy a PS 5(Not now due to monies), wont wait for a beefed up Pro, nor would I wait for the PS 6.
