So, the last console I owned was an Atari 2600, so I decided it was time for an upgrade. I have ordered a Nintendo Switch. I'm entirely a PC gamer until now, but I wanted to get something for both my wife and myself, since we're stuck at home (if it was just for me, I probably would have gone XBox One or PS4).

Any recommendations on must-have games for the platform? We will probably get Zelda, but I am looking for mostly casual games (more my wife's taste), so mostly co-op, racing, tennis, perhaps a co-op tower defense (my favourite genre), etc. even board games.

Thanks!

Animal Crossing - must say I looked at the video, and my take was "??????..........????????????????". Perhaps we just have to give it a go.

Tower defense: Pixeljunk Monsters, OTTTD, Defense Grid
Racing: of course MK8 Deluxe
Tennis: Mario Tennis is pretty good, I have it
Coop: Overcooked/Overcooked 2, Towerfall: Ascension, Cuphead

Hollow Knight
Zelda BOTW
Mario Kart 8
Overcooked
Donkey Kong
Doom 3
Doom (2016)

I would say skip everything on that list you can already play on PC.

Stick to the designated Switch exclusives.

Or at least ones that are more appropriate to the mobile experience like Hollow Knight...in which case rather get Ori.

Thanks. I’m a big fan of Ori - played it on the PC. I’ve bought the new one, but haven’t played it yet. I didn’t really like Hollow Knight - the die and find-body mechanic was exhausting.

If this doesn’t convince you to get Animal Crossing then nothing ever will.

I’m up at 2am and my wife comes along as says “What are you doing?”, then looks at my computer screen in horror. I feel a rush of shame, but nevertheless I give her my headphones, and I say: “Listen...”

Yeah also not a fan of the mechanic and hence didn’t play it very far.

Anything I can play on a console instead of PC I will play on console. I reckon it's hard to beat the mobility, big screen when you want it, decent controls. I know you can dock your PC, but the switch is docked already.

Oh I’m a die hard console guy and couldn’t give a damn about PC and hence I don’t own one.

But I can put myself in the shoes of the die hard PC gamer and hence why I rather recommend sticking to the exclusives made for the Switch and not just ports of PC games.

More so FPS games are a hard barrier to cross for PC gamers switching to console.

Games I would recommend:
crash bandicoot, nostalgic fun,
Mario, old faithful always a good time
Zelda is pretty cool the world is never ending.
Asphalt is a good free racing game.
Cuphead, ori, darksiders are on my wishlist

Just a heads up Nintendo is having there spring sale and there are some more than decent specials maybe pick up some in the interim.

For sure. If I'd kept my PS4, I would have developed my interface for keypad and mouse. I'm sure there are solutions out there now, but playing FPS on a PS4 controller is a royal PITA.

Only if you are a die hard PC gamer.

Most of us console okes conformed years ago already and much prefer the controller.

Those triggers on the DS4 and the centre analog sticks suck though.
