Nissan's all-new Ariya electric coupé crossover has been shown. Their 2nd EV after the Leaf./

Nissan Ariya

Nissan revealed to the world the all-new Nissan Ariya electric coupé crossover, marking a new chapter for Nissan electric vehicles. CEO Makoto Uchida and Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta unveiled the Ariya to a global audience during a livestreamed event at the soon-to-open Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama.

The Ariya - Nissan's first all-electric coupé crossover- offers powerful acceleration and smooth, quiet operation, as well as an interior with a welcoming, luxurious lounge-like atmosphere. Its stress-free autonomous driving features, voice personal assistance and seamless connectivity heighten on-road confidence and provides a welcoming environment for the driver and passengers. And with an estimated range of up to 310 miles (based on WLTP combined cycle, subject to homologation), Ariya is the perfect partner for daily commutes and road trips alike.

The Nissan Ariya is heavily based on the similarly-named concept vehicle displayed at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and first hinted at with the IMx at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. It's the first production model to represent Nissan's new electrified brand identity, forging a path toward a new automotive era where electrification, optimised platform packaging and seamless vehicle AI technology will become standard.

Bold new Nissan Ariya is pivotal electric SUV with 310-mile range

Nissan's second EV arrives next year in five available trim variants with up to 389bhp and ‘exciting’ handling

The new Nissan Ariya electric SUV features bold styling, a range of up to 310 miles and a 389bhp performance variant – and Nissan claims it will “mark a new era for electric vehicles” by combining high levels of tech with “exciting” handing.

The crucial new model is set to go on sale next year as a rival to the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID 4 and will sit above the successful Leaf in the Japanese firm’s EV line-up.

The Ariya retains the bold styling of the concept unveiled at last year’s Tokyo motor show and showcases Nissan’s new brand identity with “seamless, elegant and fresh” styling. It’s the first model built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s new CMF-EV electric architecture, with Nissan operating chief Ashwani Gupta saying it represents the start of “a new chapter for Nissan”. He said the firm has “strived to amplify the fun-to-drive aspect of electric mobility,” adding: “It’s not just a great EV crossover, but also a great vehicle – a true force of wonder that will take us into the future.”

The Ariya will be sold in five versions in the UK, with single-motor rear-wheel-drive and twin-motor four-wheel-drive powertrains and a choice of 63kWh and 87kWh batteries.

Nissan's New Logo Is Sharp And Simple

Nissan revealed a new logo during its 2021 Ariya electric crossover showcase. It’s lighter and sharper than the current/outgoing embossed “NISSAN” hamburger, and I think it’s a big improvement.

(It was never actually a hamburger, by the way. “Nissan’s logo has stayed true to a belief held by its founder Yoshisuke Aikawa, ‘Shisei tenjitsu o tsuranuku,’ which he interpreted to mean, ‘If you have a strong belief, it penetrates even the sun,’” according to Nissan.)

This image was first seen a few months ago in trademark filings, but as of July 14, 2020, I guess it’s official. And the Ariya will be the first new car to wear it.

New Nissan Ariya unveiled as electric crossover with up to 610 km range!

Nissan has finally revealed its new Ariya, with the fresh-faced electric crossover boasting a claimed range of “up to 610 km”.

The Japanese firm says the newcomer offers “powerful acceleration and smooth, quiet operation”.

Sales of the new model are scheduled to start in mid-2021 in Japan, before being rolled out to Europe, North America and China by the end of 2021. It’s not yet clear when (or indeed if) the new electric vehicle is coming to South Africa.

The new Ariya measures 4 595 mm long, 1 850 mm wide and 1 655 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2 775 mm. It weighs in between 1 900 kg and 2 200 kg, depending on the model and specified equipment.

The biggest problem with the car, is that it will only be available in Europe in end 2021.

Nissan reveals new brand logo

Logo, revealed on electric Ariya SUV, marks "new era" for marque

Nissan has unveiled a revised brand logo on its new electric Ariya SUV, which will be rolled out across its model range.

The logo is intended to mark a “key milestone” in the Japanese maker’s transformation plans, as it seeks to recover from recent poor results and its tarnished reputation as a result of the Carlos Ghosn scandal.

The firm said the new logo “looks to the future while staying proudly connected to the company’s rich heritage and tradition of innovation”.

The new logo will be applied to Nissan models as they are introduced or refreshed.

Helen Perry, Nissan Europe’s head of EVs, told Autocar: “It’s no coincidence that the launch of the Ariya and the new logo are happening at the same time. This really is the moment of change and a new era for Nissan.”

Nissan plots large electric SUV to follow Ariya

Marque's third EV is set to use new CMF-EV architecture and offer around 310 miles of range

Nissan’s electric line-up could soon include a large SUV, joining the Leaf and the new Ariya SUV that will be launched in late 2021.

As Nissan’s third bespoke electric model, a large SUV is a natural next step given the demand for such vehicles in China and the US, as well as the company’s role in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance to lead projects involving large cars.

The recently revealed Ariya uses the new CMF-EV architecture, a modular platform created purely for electric models. As with other car makers such as Volkswagen and its MEB electric platform, a family of Nissan models is expected to use the architecture given the heavy investment involved.

Nissan won't build a full self-driving car anytime soon

TG speaks to boss Makoto Uchida, who says full 'eyes off' driving is "not soon at all"

In the middle of the 2010s, Nissan bosses often talked about a self-driving car by 2021. Funnily enough they no longer do.

The new Ariya electric crossover has ProPilot 2.0, Nissan’s latest kit. It’s designed to handle driving, hands-off, ‘from on-ramp to off-ramp’ of a motorway or dual-carriageway trip, doing its own overtaking and negotiating cloverleaf junctions.

But electronics still monitor that the driver is keeping their eyes on the road. And it only works where there’s a central reservation, and not across traffic lights, roundabouts or crossroads.

Talking with the firm’s new CEO Makoto Uchida, we found him a lot more hesitant than with his predecessors about full autonomy. “Of course hands-off, eyes-off, this is the one we are talking about in the future. What we can do?
