Nissan Xtrail

Have 2012 2.5 petrol get 10.6 l per hundred kms most comfy car I have ever driven.

The Renault Koleos is based on the X-Trail. I've got one of each at the moment, the '09 X-Trail 2.0d and the '10 Koleos 2.5. The X-Trail is a lot less good looking IMO and the interior is plastic, steering I never found to be too bad and yes, that diesel is economical and powerful - great to drive! The Koleos has a MUCH better interior, everything feels way better, back seats are bigger (corner of the two side seats curve in on the X-Trail but not the Koleos) and that 2.5 is absolutely brilliant. Averaging 10.3 l/100km and power feels better than the X-Trail but I could be wrong. IMO, the Koleos is a more refined X-Trail - the way the Nissan should have been

Thread necro: Is it my imagination or do 2nd hand X-trails (1 - 4 years old) tend to have quite high mileage? I've been more focused on those on cars.co.za available in the western cape but it does seem to be a trend countrywide.

They do as they are workhorses...

Also have a look at the Renault Koleos. We've had both. Koleos is based on the X-Trail but is a lot more luxurious

From what I've heard, the CVT costs about R60k to replace at the dealers. Half that for a refurb... Also the reason I didn't keep my Patriot, when it reached the end of its maintenance plan.
 
Diesel engines has a conventional 6 speed auto (torque converter) so you won't have the Cvt issues. But I'd steer clear as I've heard about issues with injectors and turbos. Ask the more knowledgeables at 4X4 community. I have a petrol manual Great car, does what is says on the tin.

Had the 2009 manual 4x2. Lots of road noise, not the best quality interior but fuel consumption was great and so was the power. I'd recommend one if you don't mind the interior quality.

Nissan Murano CVT replacement with a refurb cost me 42k - dealers wanted over 60k

Yeah, I watched a few videos on how they work. If they do indeed work with a belt, I wouldn't go for it.
