Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that imply that he has in excess of R200m worth of other assets with which to guarantee said bond? Doesn't really improve things.

This cat, is playing cat-and-mouse with the South African public. He says one thing and then, when he gets cornered on it, he says that he actually meant something else.

As for having a bond on Nkandla, we're still not clear on that. In all likelihood, it seems that he bonded another property to fund the Nkandla upgrades. But, from what I read in reports, that other property isn't even worth that much to take a bond, or even second bond out on. So could this bond that they're referring to just be an existing bond on another property? Once again obfuscating facts and misleading the public?

I think that is a matter of personal choice really. Who are we to dictate on individual preferences.

I for one want to build a home in a rural area and will not go through the pain of getting all the necessary permission from the local chiefs or Ingonyama trust to get a bond specifically for that rural property. I already have capital accumulated in my other properties in the city and it is a matter of asking the bank to re mortgage those existing properties and give me the cash. Whether I use the money to build as intended is nobody's business. But if I do build and somebody asks me where did you get the money from I would simple say I took out a bond and leave it there...

WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO FUND HIS LIFESTYLE. THEREFORE, WE CAN DICTATE HOW HE COMMUNICATES ABOUT SPENDING OUR MONEY. HE IS A PUBLIC SERVANT, NOT A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL. Do you not get the difference?
What you do with YOUR money is your business. If it were OUR money, it would be OUR business.

Nah, he's referring to the initial upgrades. The government have stated categorically that they will be funding the additional upgraded to the tune of around R250m...

But we the taxpayer have got no business dictating how he spends his earned salary. Do you care how the local public servant such as a cop or a nurse spends their salaries? I think not.

Hang on... So on a salary of R2m per year for the last 4 years, he has accumulated enough wealth to service a R200m bond?

He didn't earn this money. He received corrupt donations and gifts - all of which are thefts from the people of south africa.

We ALSO have a right to hold our leaders to the CONSTITUTION of South Africa, and the Rule of Law, to which he regularly gives the finger.

Oh right, the "I do not have to answer to the public" defense. How silly of us tax payers and voters to question the spending of our taxpayer money. Rather we shut up and take his word for it, right?

How can you possibly justify any of this to yourself? What happens the next time he upgrades another property? And the time after that? And the time after that? All on our dime? Are you okay with him going at it and building roads to suit his personal agenda while you fork out for it all? If you're not okay with him doing it twenty times, why would you be okay with doing it once?

I'd say the message is less clear. Zumatello may have a bond but there is no explicit statement that says the bond talked about here is for the Nkandla kraal.

I say until someone can prove that the R1.5 billion to build the road was allocated from a government department there is no story here. We are still at a conjecture stage. Surely a simple audit of the relevant departments (Public Works and Human Settlements ) should reveal such a huge sum going to Korong Capital Partners.
