Any of you guys or gals living or working in the Brackenfell area experiencing problems connecting to 3G?

I use a iPhone 5 and work in the Brackenfell area. But for some reason 3G connectivity deems lacking. Or it's just the phone.

A college has a ipad mini and that connects fine to 3G.

I also find if I leave 3G on in the settings the battery drains way faster in Brackenfell. At home "southern suburbs" battery drain does not seem so bad.

Any other iPhone 5 uses having the same kind of problem?

Hi KingLv

have you tried putting it on "Airplane mode" for a few minutes and on again?

Keep us posted.

I have tried that... no luck...

I found that removing the sim and reinserting it works.

I have turned off automatic in Settings->Carrier and selected Cell C. It looks like that's working for me.

I still see a substantial battery drain with 3G enabled in the Brackenfell area.

With a full charge I end up with about 20% battery by 18h00.

Did a test in the I live in and I ended up at 50% at around 22H00 and I used the phone way more.
(I think my iPhone 5 does not like being in Brackenfell :crying: )

I will monitor to see If 3G stays active during the course of the day.

Battery drain depends on signal strenght. Weaker signal, modem uses more power to transmit. But even there is more battery drain when modem is contantly forced handover to neightbouring cell. You have no control over this, but you can force 3G-only and also manual band selection 900MHz to prevent hunting.

You failed to mention which service provider you are using.

My 3G on Vodacom is styling in Brackenfell.

Dude, it's 3G on Cell C. You will not find reception anywhere. There reception is limited to a square foot nowadays.

If I have 3G turned on(in settings) the battery still drains like crazy. So I just switch it off when in Brackenfell. When I leave the area I will turn it back on again. It does sometimes take hrs to show the 3G icon again. If I really need to have 3G I am forced to use the remove sim card fix I mentioned before.

I seriously see better battery life in southern suburbs. Like 30% better battery life...

You failed to notice which section this thread was posted in.

LOL.

I did actually check that but considering it's length...

"Cell C Broadband and Mobile Internet | LTE, HSPA+, 3G, EDGE, GPRS and BIS"

I apparently just saw everything after the pipe.

LOL... I know... I Know... was planning to fix it.
I didn't mean to make fun of you. For all I knew, your phone did show 6 bars. My point was that 3 bars on a Samsung are not the same as 3 bars on a Nokia, etc.

Before I removed the Onavo APN profile....

This after I removed it....

You can also see that I lost 15% battery life in 1hr. 3G is a battery killer. Then LTE will be a serial killer and rapist.
