No 4G in SA - here's why

Can't wait for these awesome speeds so I can get through my 100MB - 250MB (which still seems to be the norm on high end contracts) faster :)

Hope these improvements will equate into lower data costs.

You have just highlighted the sad reality in South Africa.

It’s time to cut the losses caused by this wasted opportunity and just release the spectrum.
To who? The current 2 main players have shown no sign that they would effectively use it to the benefit of the country.

Auction it off to raise a few billion raunts to bail out Eskom...
And then what? We still have an ailing public enterprise minus a national asset that can be abused by whoever pays the highest.

hmm lets see
my phone support all the stupid networks current LTE Spec Bands IN SA and .
just give us bloody 4G already, so i can burn my data
Are you happy burning your data at the current price?

Your reasoning for this statement?
Have you looked at Vodacon and eMpTyN's competitive performance over the last 3 years compared to Telkom and Cell C?

Who, Broadband Infraco or Sentech?
Eskom. As long as it's seen as another cash cow instead of a national asset that should be partly funded through tax money.

Vodacom and MTN are so far ahead that the rest may as well close shop. Billions are being poured into Cell C and Telkom Mobile and it is being wasted as they have both failed.

As for Eskom, how else must the State raise funds to bail them out?

Ahead with what? Certainly not price. It doesn't help to have a super fast high capacity product when nobody can use it without being penalised. As for Cell C and Telkom failing, we've heard the doom prophets on that front for years whenever a company doesn't partake in the reigning profiteering mentality. So far they are all wrong with their predictions as neither have failed. But hey, I suppose we'll hear the "it's unsustainable" chants soon. ;)

Not by squandering our non-renewable resources to the highest bidder. There's enough funds already. The focus shouldn't be on bailing out but on continually investing in public infrastructure that's of benefit to the whole country. But in post-apartheid South Africa the focus is not on that but on centennial parties and KFC while the peepol eat woodfire food by candle light not out of romanticism but necessity.
