I ordered a pair of 5850's from a store over the weekend.

( the store owner ) got a call this morning, telling him that he is not allowed to collect and ship the stock until after rAge, due to an agreement signed with some or other store that wants exclusive rights to sell at rAge.

What bugs me is that the store didn't know, and hence I didn't know about this agreement until after the order was placed, surely his supplier has an obligation to tell him about this before he sells the cards?

I'm irritated and confused, perhaps a legal mind wandering the forums could enlighten me?

I bought these cards specifically for rAge, since my old card released the blue smoke a week ago, now I'm stuck with a loan card until they are allowed to ship them.

The store owner asked me not to mention his store here, since the last time someone had a complaint about the supplier, their closed the account.

Edit:

I should probably specify that it's a Sapphire card, I know that ASUS has allready let cards reach consumers.

I would edit that bullzeye, specifying the make of the card gives the game away to those in the know :P

but yeah, its unethical, and complete bull****....

I also ordered one, lets get everyone together at rage and prevent said store from selling a single unit

I also ordered one..... really dissapointed as I bought a whole new machine on monday....now all I have is an old AGP card which is USELESS in the PC!!

Yeah, let's gather around and block the entrance to said store at rAge. >.>

Yeah, I know that we can all find out who the distributor is, but stating it would be crossing the line, I think.

But in any case, I believe that you won't be able to get this card until after rage anyway.

You will evidently be able to buy it from the retailer at rage.

So we can ask for our money back, pay the inflated prices they will charge at rage, or wait till next week.

Not happy

Well I would actually like to buy my 5850 at rage, so I will probably have to knock anyone the **** out who tries to stop me :D

@Grim
You'll pay 50% more than you would anywhere else, I seriously suggest you wait for monday and buy it somewhere else. If not for the price cut, at very least for the fact that you shouldn't be supporting such an unethical business.

Agreed, I doubt they will have them for a good price, but I am hopeful :D

As for ethics, I don't really see the issue with what they doing, and if the price was right I would buy one without a doubt.

BTW: How much did you get your 5850 for?

Without giving the dealer away, I can tell you that it's comfortably less than R3400 including VAT.

nobody will stop me from selling that card before rAge cause they are F!@#$ed up. If they want to do that then they must sell the 5870 for <=R1000!!!!!

not that I'm selling pc parts but this is just what I would have done.

ATI anyway sucks. Although they are good at graphics when it comes to physx Nvidia wins BIG time. That's why they are a bit more expensive

lol...
who cares about physX when the ATI whips the crap out of the nVidia card, if they both cost about the same?
