Yes I too was horrified when I finally got my hands on my HTC Magic from Vodacom. NO ANDROID MARKET????? Are you joking? Thats like buying a car in a country that doesn't sell petrol. Anyways I tried talking to leaf but they were useless so off I went to XDA and found a post that installs a rom version that gives you Android Market. So to Leaf and Vodacom
Just search google for Daldroids rom version for the magic it works like a charm.

Just thought I'd point this thread to the step by step guide I just wrote specifically for Rooting and updating the ROM on the Vodacom HTC Magic. (A lot of the guides on the internet won't work because they're for different hardware versions of the HTC Magic)

This gives you Android Marketplace, which is pretty f-ing sweet. Thousands of awesome applications!

Yip, the image that I installed has that installed by default. I read that it sometimes gives problems but I have not had any.

Howzit everyone, just want to say big thanks to JacoGr & mlpotgieter. I've been reading ur guys posts and I've successfully flashed my Dream with JFv1.51_EU *Big Up*.

I'm new to this Android OS so excuse my ignorance, just wanna ask did you guys manage to gain root on ur phones? My head has been spinning from reading posts all over the net about gaining root. All I did was boot from the recovery image mlpotgieter recommended which included nandroid. Made a backup of the MTN rom +- 88meg btw. Loaded the new radio image and then the JF rom. This is not gaining root hey?

After the flash I had a bit of a problem with my mms, I can send a mms fine but when I recieve one instead of getting the mms, I get a msg from MTN telling me " Y'ello. You have recieved a new MMS from 078 ### ####. To view the MMS go to www.mtn.co.za/mms." why? and that link doesn't work. I put my APN's back how they where before the flash.

Android Market is the Ish! LOL i got a sms from MTN today saying I can download free Android apps from www.leaf.co.za/openmarket ha ka ka ***. iPhone better watch out my Dream eats apples nom nom nom

I didn't use the JF ROM... I used a modified JF ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518851. It works great. I see they have released a new version with quickoffice... time to upgrade.

WIFI works great. When I am in my office or at home, the phone connects via wifi automatically and does not use 3G, which is great for my 3G bill

Also got the sms from MTN today. Just trying out the leaf openmarket..has some ++ but also doesnt have a search feature :-( There is multireader on there... which i just installed. Also a program called "contactsSync" which will sync contacts to your exchange server... not of interest to me as I am syncing via macbook -> google -> andriod and vice versa.

Ok so I tried to load HardSPL now when I switch on my phone I see the MTN Logo screen, then it just continuosly reboots and I cant get to recovery mode or fastboot. Any1 got any advice? Thanks

Well take a chance, and take it to Leaf and tell them that it froze or something and when you removed the battery it did not want to boot....maybe you are lucky and they cannot pick up that you did something and fix it for you under warranty

Just a reminder, installing another ROM will void the guarantee. We are getting the Android Market in the next few months, so if you don't want to risk bricking your phone have a little patience...
