No digital TV for 2010

I dont get it. DSTV are broadcasting the Olympics in HD, why cant they do it with the soccer world cup if the rest of the world is getting an HD feed, why cant they just hook into that?
I don't get it either. Everything has to be in place for 2010 but we won't be able to see it in HD?
Only a moron would install digital equipment that is not HD capable.
Of course, even behaving moronic is sometimes too high a standard for the SA government.

This Will Hahn is an idiot.
While numerous other countries will enjoy crisp, high-resolution pictures, most local viewers will still be watching in a low-resolution analogue format, said Gartner analyst Will Hahn

Said who? Digital switchover is set to begin in November 2008... then it'll take time to get the correct equipment to the sites and get them up and running. This will be done in phases. After about 10 months the transmitters will have 60% of SA covered. Then after 12 months about 80% of SA will be getting a digital signal.

Everything is already in place. They might be a bit behind schedule. Analogue receiver sales should have stopped sometime before July already... :o

They might as well enter the spirit of things by setting up a big screen so their staff can watch the match rather than expect any productivity, Hahn said.

Please. I may look stupid but I ain't. There are ways to sidestep "problems" like this you know. For one, I think the cellphone providers will be setting up some towers with high capacity near the stadiums. Should take care of the majority of the 'problems'.

This is all speculation, since the way it's going now there won't be a 2010 soccer event.

Yet communications department director-general Lyndall Shope-Mafole insisted the technology switchover would begin as planned by November 1...

There you go, see, nothing to worry about. DOC knows what is best and they are more than capable to make the unthinkable happen, after all they are the mighty DOC, even the laws of physics have to obey them :p

 I don't think DSTV is broadcasting the Olympics in HD. Their HD decoder just came out now and they will start/started broadcasting HD this month and movies only so far.

They might be getting the olympics in HD but they aren't broadcasting them in hd.
