No digital TV for 2010

These people need some B-Complex or something, they're sleepwalking through their lives.

I dont get it. DSTV are broadcasting the Olympics in HD, why cant they do it with the soccer world cup if the rest of the world is getting an HD feed, why cant they just hook into that?

While numerous other countries will enjoy crisp, high-resolution pictures, most local viewers will still be watching in a low-resolution analogue format, said Gartner analyst Will Hahn

I don't recall the government promising that everyone in SA would watch the World Cup in 720p(at least). So what is Mr Hahn on about? As long as there's an anologue signal some people will still choose that technology over digital television....In the UK it only took off several years after its introduction prompted by a drop in the price of STB's and improved programming on Freeview.

Hahn also warned businesses near a football stadium that they may as well close during a match because there may not be enough bandwidth to make calls or transmit data during the events. Thousands of people in the stadium will be sending text messages or photographs to their friends back home, phoning their colleagues to find out where they are, and filming the highlights and transmitting those home too.

? Excluding Cell C on weekends, the other networks have coped quite well with heavy traffic.

There is a diffrenece

Please keep in mind that HDTV and Digital TV is not the same thing!

They are not talking about DSTV, they are talking about normal TV. DSTV will obviously broadcast the 2010 WC in HD

well, if there ever was a motivation for digital tv the WC has to be it. if it doesnt happen by then, i doubt it will _ever_ happen! :o

wow, i didn't see that coming... </sarcasm>

Ill be watching on dstv :D

Another article by a technology impaired plonker – don’t you love them!

“It’s somewhat unlikely that SA will see the games in HDTV but the broadcast itself has to be HDTV capable,” he said.
So the signal / transmission will be there…..

delay in drawing up a digital migration policy, which includes the specifications for set-top boxes to convert the signals

It has Fckall to do with the STB’s – her poinsenesness’s impressive state-of-the-art most technically advanced never have a hope of finding anyone capable of making them here STB's makes NOT ONE MENTION of having digital out / HDMI!

You would need a digital TV – (of which you cannot even buy one here yet even though switchon is in 2 months) to get the HD they’ll be broadcasting with! (apart from the odd imported set)

Eish, it seems like as South Africans -

1. We either complain too much or,
2. We dont get the service we disserve..

time for a poll i think...
