“Due to the nature and complexity of the new features, which includes extensive testing, we cannot specify an exact launch date. New features have end-to-end value chains which must be put in place; the complexity is not just in the decoder but in multiple back-end systems too,” Rakitla added.
A translation of this article goes something like this: "We're making plenty of money not fixing it, so it's not a priority."
I don't think we'll ever see software that allows the series recording facility and I have my doubts about th On-demand stuff. Series recording has been promised on the SD-PVR since it was first released. Five years on and we have not see any sign of this software, bar when a couple of lucky beta testers had access to the software two years ago.
Don't hold your breath for updated software - these updates add no revenue to MC and it will continue to be the very lowest priority in the organisation.![]()
I just got mine installed yesterday. already managed to crash the decoder with a few clicks and also a test recording didn't record the previous night.
I cant see why MC cannot sort out the bugs in an interim release and then work on functionality in the subsequent one instead of doing a massive change, if at all. the dec update was a joke so something isn't right in their dept. lack of skills maybe?
the fact that MC released the uec decoder also hasn't provided much help. until they decide to phase out the pace, they need to test both both models...
it's also that DSTV has built a lot of decent offerings (supersport, series etc) albeit overpriced that it'll be extremely difficult to cancel on it. What DSTV is basically what most S.Africans want to watch unfortunately. This is no fault to MC i think but to government's lack of foresight.
sorry i still fail to see what the hype is about the hdpvr, it still sound more trouble than it is worth
