No HD PVR software update in sight

now why on earth would i want to buy a buggy hdpvr and how many channels are there actually in hd? beside the pc is doing a great job of recording and changing dstv channels.

I hate monochoice, they are lazy and greedy. Just thinking about the bottom line, but not giving its costumers what we payed for.

I have both PVR's setup in eXtraview mode. Yes the HD PVR is a lot slower on remote response and menu / EPG stuff. I have had one or two freezes from being impatient with the remote. But I have never had a program not auto tune or record. Having one channel viewable is not a total train smash. I love being able to record two channels at the same time. I only use the SD PVR in my bar lounge and Bedroom now days. So in all its not as bad as its made out to be. Slow - yes, functional - yes, it does need some improvement for sure, but I'm loving it all the same.

BTW: there is only a limited amount of UEC decoders. The multichoice order was not as much as they had hoped for. Me wonders what else is in the pipeline??? Dual Channel HD-PVR?? That would peev me off!

It's not too bad, I only have to reboot the box about once a month because of an issue with only getting sound and no picture.

Oh, the only real complaint is how long it takes boot up!

Touch wood the only issue I've had is a faulty Xtraview decoder. On the justification of HD, I woudl've also said it was a bit of a waste before the Discovery HD channel started, now it's starting to show it's worth, lets just hope for some more HD channels.

Uggh this is annoying, that's why I'm holding out until 1. Multichoice give us a proper decoder and 2. There's more HD channels. We really need some competition in this market.

I bought an HD PVR about two years ago and it really is the most appaling piece of junk - unreliable, frustratingly slow-witted and missing several of the useful facilities on the SD PVR. I shall take great pleasure when the time comes into smashing it into a thousand tiny pieces with the heaviest sledgehammer I can find, it's been that bad. Why does it take so long, so often, to respond to the remote ? What's the stupid thing doing that it can't satisfy the highest priority interrupt, that of its owner ? It's like running Windows when it goes off and does something of no doubt great interest to itself but absolutely none to real people, and nothing else can happen on the machine. I'm surprised to see prices going up; you would think they would be giving the wretched things away by now.
