No Man's Sky

So if I buy a steam game, play it and then request a refund I'm also stealing someones ip?

Nope. Bit like buying anything legally; you pay for it and if you are not happy, and the seller agrees, I do not see what the problem is?

EDIT: This is on the assumption you "return" the game - as in; you do not play it anymore.

18 quintillion planets wide. 1/18 quintillion deep. Nevertheless I'm 20 hours in and having fun. If you have kids, give them a separate save with the limitless jetpack, sprint and unit mods. Like heaven recreated for them

Cool. Look - I am not saying no-one does not like this game :)

It's fun for a while but I can see it wont be one of those games I sink dozens of hours into. But right now I'm 20 hours in and still having fun..

No Man's Sky experiences 78% decline in playerbase

No Man's Sky has some truly massive hype and so far, it hasn't really lived up to it at all and yet somehow, it has been the biggest release on Steam this year.

The game launched last week hitting an average of 212,000 players at its peak, quickly becoming the largest launch of 2016. But, the game has been losing players since its launch, with a massive 78% decrease from its peak 7 days ago of 212,000 players to hit its new peak of just 47,000 players.

Maybe, this game needs to Evolve

Thanks for that....put me right off the game.

So last night I watched two youtube reviewers play the game from the start (first time). I may want it again...

I had tears running down my face. This dude is hilarious.

If there's one thing I will certainly remember, so much so that for me it made the purchase price worth every cent, it's the opening scene and the first hour or two of gameplay. Simply superb. Also, my first space station was a wonder and when I landed I was in awe for quite a while. Those moments alone made this game amazing for me. Yes it gets repetitive later on but I'm still playing on the back of those great opening moments.

So there is zero gain for the devs, there's actually a loss as I think steam/valve retains a certain amount after the refund to the consumer.

If one pirates a game, decide you don't like it and delete it there is also a zero loss to the devs.

I also have an issue with the mindset that every pirated copy is a lost sale.

I haven't Pirated a game in a long time. Not since I could afford to buy them easily. But NMS is a special case for me. I will absolutely not add to the coffers of liars. So if the bug ever bites me to want to play this game, I will look for alternatives to purchasing.

Who cares what the company is like? A good product is a good product. By the time I'm done with NMS the hours clocked will be insane - great value for money.

Rather than pirate NMS, why not just buy a different game? For example, Star Citizen or Elite: Dangerous.

I've played around 27 hours and I must admit the gameplay has gotten stale. I still load it up once or twice a day, but I don't play for long. Nothing to do other than explore new worlds and admire the scenery. I have zero need for resources or money at this point.

This game really needs some interesting DLC soon.

Very engaging seeing the exact same monuments and outposts on every single planet you visit.

Let's clarify;

Each solar system will only have one race in it, the number of planets/moons has no effect. Each planet will have this one race's structures scattered across the planet via the procedural generation

This might be how you arrived at your conclusion of 'exactly the same' 'on every single planet'

In my experience the outposts with unique models are as follows for each of the 3 races;

Transmission Tower
Operations Center
Manfacturating Facility
Trade Outpost
Outpost
Abandoned Building
Small 1 room shelters are all the 'shipping container' shape but look slightly different

Monoliths have at least 10 different models

Beacons are the uniform across the galaxy

Each system will have at least one space station, while these do have the same entrance/interior, the outside models do seem to be dependent on the race living in this system

If 12 races were suddenly added to the game, the player would have been given an information overload (ala starting EVE for the first time, getting your head around the basics and promptly being put off due to the complexity)

Oh really? Because I'm betting even the most fervent NMS fanboy won't be able to tell you which is which if you put the three races' buildings next to each other in an image.

Those little prefab structures look almost identical. The slight variations that the RNG creates in them is essentially meaningless because they hold no gameplay value to the player. When the only thing that distinguishes one outpost from another is the interior decor and scattering of the buildings, then the exploration value becomes nil.

Monoliths have at least 10 different models

Wow. How nice of them to include 10 monolith models in a game with 18 quintillion planets!

:crylaugh: You really can't say anything about this that this sentence doesn't say for itself.

Your point is pointless. One example is a legal transaction with a meeting of the minds between seller and buyer; the other is theft.

I care when I know that my hard earned money is going to them. Whether the game ends up being value for money on time spent in it or not. If a business practice of theirs is questionable and dishonest, I have no qualms about going down dishonest routes myself to keep my own money out of their pockets.

Got Star Citizen already.

My main concern is the price vs content. Not price vs hours spent. This game is absolutely 100% not worth £40 when you look at the content of the game. I can spend 25 hours playing a flash game. That doesn't mean that it is worth £40.

http://gamerant.com/no-mans-sky-paid-dlc-816/

During a recent interview with the press outlet Daily Star, Hello Games’ Sean Murray stated that he could not rule out the possibility that No Man’s Sky will go on to have some paid DLC in the future. This admission comes in spite of the fact that the studio’s founder declared last week that any and all of the post-launch content for the game would come via free updates.

No man - this is just rationalization. If you think they have been dishonest, then you don't buy the game. Not steal it.

Has anyone here seen the controversial post by user /u/MeetWayneKerr on reddit? /u/MeetWayneKerr has since been deleted which led to the community taking more shots at each other’s.

This was the OP's original discussion,

which has been copy pasted and continued here,

reddit users want to know whether /u/MeetWayneKerr had deleted his own account, by reddit or an act which was pressured by a third party.

This YouTuber tries to speak to both sides,

Interesting to know that the gameplay demoed by Hello Games was, a-hem, uniquely made to be demoed, hyped by Murray again and again...
