No Man's Sky

Those wanting to try out a alternative game, Subnautica has also been updated with content galore.

It's currently -40% on steam (R359). Think I might give this one a try now that they have updated it.

Don't.

Notwithstanding the promises made with this update, the foundation for something that'll ever be worth even that much just isn't there. It's a wallpaper generator, and it's unlikely to ever be much more.

No Man's Sky has height limits to its base-building, but you can bypass them

...and naturally, people already are.

Base building is now a thing in No Man's Sky, thanks to the recent Foundation Update. Typically enough, there are limits to what you can build: you're relegated to a large but still-somewhat-stifling region, and building upwards will only get you so far. That is, unless you make a change to one of the game's files.

As this helpful tutorial explains, you only need to edit the tkgraphicssettings.mxml file, which is hidden in BINARIES / SETTINGS within the main No Man's Sky directory. If you set the property "RemoveBaseBuildingRestrictions to "true" then you'll be on your way, but as always, you do so at your own risk.

I've not done this myself, but there are examples of some of the resulting shenanigans circulating on reddit, in particular this one.

I see that some peekers in the foundation DLC files discovered vehicles, likely to follow on this update. Turning the game more sandbox may improve it somewhat.

Indeed. I don't know why you would even want to build a base. It's still not going to fix the lackluster content, dozens of missing features, etc.

I thought about starting it up to check out the new update, but then decided I have better things to occupy my time with. No Man's Sky missed the ball and it's too late to fix that now.

I agree. This is a case study on why people should not pre-order games ever.

I listen to a few youtuber gaming news channels like The Know and they all reckon that NMS is to thank for the poor sales on recent AAA games. One example is Dishonored 2. Seems gamers is finaly waking up.

With the Foundation update they have actually thrown the idea away of being ‘alone’ in the universe.

So how many South Africans fell for this scam

I got dozens of hours of enjoyment from No Man's Sky. If it wouldn't crash on me after the Foundation update I'm sure I'd enjoy the new stuff.

That said, Hello Games definitely pulled a fast one on most people. The game's ending is the biggest FU I've ever seen.

Agreed - wouldn't say I was "scammed" as I didn't know all the promises. Saw them "demo" it a few years ago, and liked it. So when the release came, I bought it.

Enjoying the update, made the game better.
The problem is this game should have been released as a pre-play/ pre-release (game in development) saying that futures showed would be added later

what happens at the end?

The camera pans out and you're thrown into a new galaxy with a broken ship, essentially starting the whole thing over.

And no, I'm not joking.

Knowing how many features were pulled out of this game. They probably had a more elaborate ending planned, and just couldn't pull it off.

Starting to look good now
