Not always. Calling Hitler a racist is not a personal attack as Hitler himself knows that he believes in the seperation of races. So it is with the KKK and Malan,Botha and all their pals including Terreblanch.

But saying someone is a racists who is not a racists is an insult, imagine saying Tutu or Mandela or Naude are racists, now that's a personal attack.

Some people however are racists and are hiding it knowing full well that society finds racism to be dispicable and in order to keep it hidden they will never verbally say I am racist, they will only act it out and give other reasons to their racists behaviour. Call this type of people racists will make them say you are personally attacking them and they will be really hurt, but not because you are wrong, but because you have removed their pretence of not being racist.
 
is there a website with a list names that can safely be called racist ? a wiki of some sort ? Maybe someone can set one up. Ofc, you cant put other peoples names up. People would have to apply themselved to have their name put on the racist list. I guess they would need to provide proof. Certified copies of membership certificates or recent KKK photos, with headgear removed of course.

You have a point. But as the accuser (of racism) the burden of proof is on you.

If you can't prove the charge, it's a slanderous personal attack which means that you should withdraw it and apologise.

On more than one occasion now smokey has insulted me personally. Please see to it that he gets spoken to please... it's becoming a real pain in the ass.

but this is what this is, it's a discussion where we discuss things and sometimes stray off topic. sometimes we just include people in these discussions to understand their motives better :)

i've seen many racists here. no matter how what conclusion you come to in one post, or how subtle they mention things, you can sometimes just get a feeling that they're racist. the latest example is palmela, with the "you can't take the jungle out of a black" header. i mean many of us already felt it, and we picked and pinched on poor siphox when i felt that siphox was right, and being abused simply becoz he was defending the ANC. a good example to look for personal attacks is when someone defends the ANC, no matter even if it is illogical to some people :)

but, even if you are a racist, and even if you do sometimes get heated up in an argument, it doesn't mean that you're a bad person right?

If I call someone a racists without good grounds, I will withdraw and apologise.

Remember that not every racists is as honest as the Hitlers and the Botha's, some racists are in hiding using indirect method to throw their racists attacks.

Also bear in mind that many here misinterpret the definition of racist, such as the ones that are quick to label all critics of the ANC regime as racist, and those that firmly believe that only white people can be racist and it's impossible for black people to be racist.

For example, if we all hate hijackers and home invaders, the fact that most of these crimes are committed by one specific race group, does not make us racist.

i agree with Siphox and Frankie to a point, these self-pitying comments that "only white people can be racist!" and "he can't be racist becoz he's black *insert eye roll* " irritate me immensely

i notice a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that all people of the race are guilty of it tho, whether it's intentionally or unintentionally. for all the hijackers and hosue invaders there are, there is a large part of the population that don't, and people on forums and everyday life vent their frustration forgetting this

I had to comment on this: the same can be said of apartheid and current BEE/AA practice.

But I agree, you can't blame a population group for the sins of a few.
