No uncapped data plans from Vodacom: CEO

LOL - amazing to think that someone heading up a technology company can be so backwards - so if you have abusers, FUP them (like MWEB does) - they'll soon leave and the rest of your customers (and you) will be happy).

So typical, 1% of users abuse, 99% of users live with the consequences.

We have the technology to monitor and track the abusers - identify them, cut them off, simple, but oh no, not in South Africa - here it's "punish them all, they just want to steal from us - don't they know, we steal from them, not the other way around"

PS: What a smirking picture in the article - well chosen

The 'abusers' sure as hell stopped Mweb from successfully launching uncapped. What a pathetic argument from a clearly ignorant idiot. Not at all surprising, given that it's Vodacon that we're talking about - they're notorious for raping their own loyal subscribers when it comes to any kind of data usage. Useless, backwards. It's time to UPGRADE your network, not LIMIT your users. Fools.

Vodacom Uncapped ????

Uncapped is unsustainable............where have I heard this before ???? I know about quite a few uncapped options despite this !!!!!

uncapped solution as noted -> FUP and shaping. Have various options with different FUP & shaping options to cater for market needs.

But really that wouldn't be necessary if you just priced the data bundles reasonably and stopped with the ridiculous 24 month contracts.

Also, you could try get a network of hotspots to act as picocells to offload some traffic just using wifi, that would massively reduce network congestion in cities for example.

You can get uncapped 3G in Namibia for R1000/month...

Heres how i see it, they stopped or rather cut down on the BB users who where downloading alot so what is different from implementing a similar strategy here. I did not agree fully on the BB thing, but this is a bigger case :p.

They CAN drop prices low low but won't. Such a shame.

Vodacom's completely lost the plot. They keep increasing their profit, but at the expense of what they give the user. At some point it's going to bite them in the ass. Each time they respond to something in the market, it becomes more and more embarrassing to them.

They should at least offer something like MTN's Soft-capped option. Impossible to abuse because after 3gig it clicks down to 256kbit, and chase the abusers away. As a client who just wants to pay one amount a month and not worry about my phone ever not having data, I'm quite happy they chase the abusers away.

But no, they're pulling an "UNSUSTAINABLE!!!"

*yawn*

Just another reason why I am more and more certain I will be leaving Vodacon when my contract period is up.

Where have I heard that before? I think it was AKC's rhetoric when he was stepping into his new Cell C CEO shoes.

Can Cell C's CEO sue Vodacom's CEO for plagiarism?

I doubt they have the same problem with too many users per radio as we do here... But I am pretty sure their cost base would be higher, so economics are interesting!

Oh yes? Why can dont you offer the same as MTN, with "uncapped lite" just slow down the speed when your max is reached? Im downloading everyday about a gig's worth, it might take about 8 hours but thats not the point. At least Im not sitting with a crappy 3 or 5 gig cap for the month!
