I have 4 weeks to my upgrade and I am still undecided between these 2 phones. I am on Vodacom's Top Up 315s package. I will recieve a R300 voucher if I go for the 5800, or I have to pay an extra R149 per month if I take the N97.

Is the N97 that much more in terms of value that the 5800?

I currently have a N73 which I use mainly for calls and internet browsing.

What I like most about the N97 is the USB charging. Does it charge through the data cable (like my D600 used to), or does it have a seperate cable through which it charges?

Read the reviews on GSMarena. Both are cool phones.

IMO the N97 is not worth the extra cash pm.

5800 does not charge via usb. Full touch screen phones are a bit clumsy to use esp in a rush.

Both great screens, excellent web browsing.

This comparison is distorted because the 5800 is much cheaper then it should be.

Absolutely no contest, the N97 is 3 times the phone. It's like choosing between a Citi Golf and a BMW.

1) If you want to take pictures, use a camera
2) If you want to take video, use a video camera
3) If you want to charge your phone, use a charger

5800 is a cool phone, i had a choice between a couple of phones, settled on the 5800.

Its easy, N97 is more business only, the 5800 can be a combination of both.

What are you aiming for?

Can you list 5 reasons why the N97 is (+- R3000) better than the 5800?

Look, that might be a little strong. Don't have time to go into it but I've reviewed both and the N97 was a lot more phone. For one you get a 32GB drive which is tops at the moment.

Additionally the stylus on my 5800 review unit scratched the screen after a week's worth of work.

On my suggestion one of the journo's here upgraded to the N97 and he couldn't be happier:)

The 5800's price bracket is very attractive if you're trying to save some cash though. As far as I know however you can get the N97 on an Anytime 200 with MTN for R359 a month.

I am leaning more towards the N97 but something is telling me that I might be wasting my money. I am not going to port over to MTN though.

With number portability surely the best deal is where you should go? Unless of course you're considering Cell C:)

5800. Stylus never scartched my screen.
CPU is as fast as N97 with latest update. Can take up to 32GB memory card.

5800 can do most things the N97 can at the fraction of the cost

lol..i just mean that why not be different! my mom..GF..cuz..& his GF has a 5800, ok i had a N95 8GB before i got my N97..& all i can say is the phone rocks..looks much nicer than the 5800..also the slide out keyboard is awesome (GF wanted to use my phone so we made a swop for a few days!) it takes rather long to sms compared to the N97! the battery life is much better on the N97! yes the stylus is better on the 5800..that i have to agree with!

The N97 is a 5800 with new clothes, a keyboard and 32GB memory.

If you not going to use 32GB and a keyboard is not a necessity. Get the 5800.
Its cheaper.

Its not a Citi golf compared to a BMW. Its more like a 320 compared to a 325i...

If you have the money, go for the N97 if your budget is tight go for the 5800.

As ziym3 so eloquently stated, everyone has one.
There is a reason for that - it is great value for money - it is the new "3310". :D

:p nah i should have explained myself better in my first post! but yeah i really like my phone..another thing..yes i know "if you want to take pics get a camera"..but most people take pics with their phones..& i don't mean to be rude but the camera on a 5800 is CRAP!

Does anyone have Garmin GPS installed? Does it have voice guided turn by turn navigation and how does it work with the touch screen?
