NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

I tried the update feature on the the phone but it didn't pick up any updates. Then I connected it to NSU and it picked up the new firmware.

I think maybe it's not available for OTA.

My N96 was able to update OTA though.

Been playing with my GF's phone which she received this afternoon. Even with the old software the phone is still very responsive and the screen is very sensitive to touch. This of course is without too many themes applied etc etc but I definitely cannot wait for my phone now :(

Just got mine! :D:D:D:D

In trying to update, I backed up the phone to PC, only to recieve a critical error that seems to have wiped phone of any media that was preinstalled.

I caught a glimpse of some local music, taxi violence and theba come to mind. What came on the phone? Mine is now empty, but I wouldn't mind knowing what I missed...

Also, where is the PC Suite CD? All I got in the box was a Mini CD/DVD 5800 Music Presentation?? Doesn;t seem to have any useful software on it...

The software is on the Mini CD.

If you do a firmware update it should put everything back on the phone that was there when it came out of the box.

*UPDATE*

Added PhotoFlow Image viewer to the second post. Looks like an excellent way to view images on your phone :D Here's a video.

Help Help !!

I can'r find virtualkey.v1.00.s60v3.symbianos9.1.signed.sis for my phone.

The link in the website posted in the OP, says I need to log in.

:(

Can anyone post a working link for the software needed for Garmin?
Alternatively, will the 6110 procedure work just as well?

:(

Cool- turns out the memory card was corrupted. Got a replacement phone the afternoon. I was looking to retain the preloaded music + Batman trailer etc. This is all on the new phone (memory card).

So far so good:D Loving this thing, some collegues with Omnia's/fancy Samsungs are a bit peeved:cool:

Now for the update and installation of symtorrent!

Can't you just reformat the memory card?

If the memory card is corrupted you have a slight chance of formatting it with Windows. But most of the time it wont work.

My problem is that my 5800 (blue) randomly reboots.
I figure maybe it has to do with a corrupt memory card.

I will just reformat it with the phone option. Hopefully it works.
Otherwise, it's back to MTN.

Wasn't virtualkey only necessary before support for GARMIN was added?
GARMIN<<-Isn't this all you need..? Maybe Piesang can add his input on this :)

Well, I got it installed, but it wont pick up a satellite signal (A-GPS is enabled). Also I didn't install SA Maps.

Will have to do that.

:o

I have one MAJOR problem with the 5800 - it will randomly reboot(like) when in PC suite mode.
:(

I hope my machine isn't borked.

Can anyone help me?

Exactly how does one go about installing Garmin XT for the 5800? I havent the foggiest where to begin.

Oh, and Is it any better than Nokia Maps?

Read HERE ID. Similar problems to other users it seems. May be various things that could cause it including faulty PCBs.

Is it freeware? Where does one get hold of the full install? Does it have voice nav?

No as far as I know its only a trial version but I could be wrong. Download from here. And being Garmin Im sure there is voice nav :)
