Having a weird issue with my new 5800 the last 2 days. Had 3 calls dropped with "connection error" and some of my SMS not being received until hours later. Not sure if its just a Vodacom network problem or something up with my phone. Its still within 7 days of purchase.

Anybody want to come install garmin for me on my phone? I followed the how to thread, even transfered my maps using map source to the phone which it seemed to do fine but still on the phone the GPS bars are empty (tells me searching for satellite) and it says no maps. Any suggestions?

TIP: Using Garmin XT on your 5800? Don't use Landscape mode while navigating (v5.0.0.40). Stupid bug causes it to exit every time it uses voice-guidance.

Another thing is it normal for your GPS to have only 1 Bar in CT. In in a 1 story house on a clear day and only get 1 flashing bar (nokia maps). Is this correct for SA?

Never heard of that, I have had no issues so far. It works perfectly in any mode

AFAIK all handsets do have the problem which seems to be caused by the turn preview window. Avnic has also confirmed that they are aware of the problem.
However unless you use the turn preview window you are unlikely to notice it.

I am leaning stronly to get the 5800 for my next upgrade. Do any of you use mail for exchange on the 5800? any issues with reading your email on this phone. I want to be able to sync my outlook email to my phone?
I could get one of the WinMo phones the likes of HTC or SE X1, but I figure why pay an arm and a leg when you can get a phone that has most of the basic functionality at a fraction of the cost.
ANy advice welcome.

I did a OTA update this morning on my 5800XM to v21. Works like a charm, still.
I haven't seen the 5800 in action, but I've held the dummy phone. It feels quite plasticy to me, like it's not very solid. Anyone had any major issues or do you find the features of the phone make you forget about the external case?
I don't use Mail for Exchange myself, but reviews about it are positive. As for the feel - mine is now covered in silicone, so I don't think it makes a difference to me. I didn't have a problem with it before then though. Build quality is good regardless.

Glad to hear it
Decided to take the plunge earlier today. Busy sorting out porting from Vodacom to MTN so hopefully getting mine in a day or two. Really looking forward to seeing it in action.

Anyone elses 5800 taking forever to connect to a satellite? Mine takes sometimes up to 5 minutes if at all. I have had it connected once but kept losing signal and would re-connect. This is outside in Parow (Cape Town) on a cloudless day. Anyone else having problems connecting?
