NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

scrolling contact bar

looks like once you've added 20 contacts the add contact goes away. in fact there is a warning that comes up on the 20th contact.

soo has anyone managed to get a mp4/xvid movie to play on their 5800? without converting, or even using a convertor except for super convertor?
SmartMovie 4.15 plays the formats without issue on the 5800xm, no need to convert.

loving my 5800....
got Garmin working now, anyone have any recomendations as to where and what to get with regards to car charger and windscreen or dashboard mount?

So after some research I've got Google calendar playing nice with my 5800. Here's how:

If you don't mind an app separate from your phone's calendar displaying your Google calendar events, then GCal is probably your best bet.

If you need to sync your phone's calendar to a single Google calendar, then here's what you need to do.

If you need to sync your phone's calendar to multiple Google calendars, then you need to sign up for a free account at Nuevasync.com and follow the instructions on their website. Goosync offers a similar service but it's not free.

I also tried GCalSync but gave up after mutliple certificate errors.

I just updated to v40. It's awesome, I like the new homescreen. Only thing is I dont like using the full qwerty keyboard when I hold then phone in landscape. When in landscape I hit the button to chnge keyboards and the only options are handwriting and the mini-qwerty. No alphanumeric anymore. Any way to get the alphanumeric back in landscape? It's easier to type with one hand in this orientation. I cant find the setting anywhere.

Just how small are your hands??? :D

Not sure as it seems to be a firmware mod

hahaha, my hands are way too big too use accurately regularly, can get away with quickly typing a sms in alphanumeric mode using the normal orientation, anything else i need to take out the stylus :P

Just got the v31 update with NSU. MTN phone with stock codes etc.

Has not fixed my fuzzy screen error, so it must be hardware related. Will have to take phone in.

Anyone know what the expected turn around time is for harware replacement/fixing? Should they decide to replace the phone itself, can I expect a new one in a sealed box, or any phone that they care to give me?

I have also heard Nokia ran out of some components and shipped a fair number of 5800 XMs without TV-out support. Am I right to insist that any replacement should retain the same features as my original model? I'm keen to get all my ducks in a row before I go to talk to these okes....

They should replace the phone, in the box. With TV Out support.

Throw a complete fit if they don't.

I've been banging my head against a brick wall with Nokia at Vodaworld. They insist Nokia (Reconnect Mobile) doesn't replace phones (in the box).

I'm going to pick up my phone tomorrow after the 5th book-in. Any advice

Speak to Godfrey, the store manager, if you don't get joy out of him ask him for Zayne Ramos's contact details or ask him for the regional heads details. Then get on the phone to them in front of him and tell them about the crap service and issues you've had

crap just found my first issue with the new firmware update, i cannot have calendar entries if i use the new homescreen....

yeah also noticed that..

Another issue is I can't install anything, it says the installer is already running with everything.
