NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

I finally updated my phones fw. I bricked the phone with my first try but after some googling unbricked it lol. New firmware rocks my socks!

UC browser is good. But not as good as opera. The data compression is the main reason why i use opera (fast and saves airtime) and UC doesn't have that.

Ta, but I find it easier to sign the apps with my own key, and not void the warranty.

I do it with my dev key & cert at the moment as well. I just dont understand how it voids the warranty, as you can just revert back to the current firmware?

I cant seem to update myne to Firmware 4.0?
I got it from Vodacom...
I tried the JAF program and I followed everything correctly, but still nothing...
Maybe I used the wrong code? I used 5505309 or sometihng

Hey guys:D

First of all, sorry for the sort of off topic. BUT I AM SO EXITED!!!!

I am getting a brand new 5800 tomorrow. Why did I decide on this phone, well R2200 new and all of the features, can't say no to that:whistle:

What I really want to ask though, I have had a Sony Ericsson K850i for about a year now. Before that also a SE, a w800i. So this is my first Nokia and also my first touch screen and also my first Symbian and also... You get the point. Do you guys think I will be happy with the 5800 comparing it to my K850i?

Here are the two specs compared: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2537&idPhone2=2003

So what do you think? :)

First thing you should do, before even opening the menu on the phone is to update the v40

Updating with a new firmware is one thing - hacking your phone is another.

Hi sitnet. Ive owned a W800, And own both a K850 and 5800xm. Lets just say the K850 has been in its box for a while now, forgot i had it til i read your post :D absolutely loving my 5800xm. Although the 5800 has great batt life it doesnt touch the K850, so be prepared for that, its what we all go through when moving to a smartphone. :) Overall though you'll be happy. Just make sure to Hack then update to V40. :)
OperaMini5 beta2 is just excellent use on this baby, the large hi-res screen is brilliant for watching movies, reading blogs, web browsing etc. . .its just fantastic. Having TV-Out is a bonus, and video recording is tops. Another great aspect about 5800 that is overlooked is the amazing ergonomics. Its so light and nicely designed that holding it for long periods of time is no problem at all, the K850 and N81 were awful in this, IMO, both had sharp-ish edges and N81 was also heavy.

@ Tsepz_011

I am so far very happy with the phone! The only problem is the firmware, I am struggling a lot. I asked how to update it and then I was directed here. But I have no clue about Nokia firmware (only SE). So I connected my phone to my ADSL via wireless and checked for updates on the phone, but it said no updates available. The I used JAF 1.9 (and PKEY emulator 5) to change the product code to one with the firmware update available but it still says no update available.

How do I check if the product code is even really changed? And if it did change, then it must mean it is a bad product code, so which one did you use? And furthermore is there a way I can update offline, like download the firmware manually and then use my PC to update?

EDIT: YES. I got it working! :) It doesn't detect the update with the built in updater, but with NSU it does. I already updated and I can see many improvements.

Just goes to show, even me who has had this phone for only 2 days and this my my first Nokia, could update it. So anybody can...

wow what a great phone. I got mine the other day and upgraded the FW immediately to v40. Although i seem to have a problem every now and again after prolonged use; the screen freezes. I can still hear the button tones and the one time it even refused to switch off(had to pull out the battery).

Does anyone else have this problem?

took out the voda contract and all the accessories are there thats a plus

My tv out does not work at all. I did not get a tv out cable with bit I have one. When I connect it, it just makes a huge noise and shows a completely distorted black and white image.

What is going on?
