It's more of a concern than a ill informed prediction. I read nothing into a company's size.

That must be one of the first 5800s. They had a problem where the speaker will die after some time.
Not happy with my 5800 at the moment.... Speaker decided to die over the weekend, so when someone phones me all i hear is a horrible scratchiness....
So got my sim in my OLD D-600 and will be taking the 5800 back to autopage today, think its still under warranty thought, just under a year old.
Anyone else had problems like this?

Funny, that. My 5800 is almost 2 years old (one of the originals - it has TV-out), and the speaker is still 100%.
luck of the draw i guess?
It was only on early models - some would die in two weeks and others might take longer. It was not a Nokia fault, it was a Sony fault - they made the speakers and there was a problem with how they react to humid conditions.
I have used Nokia devices for 15 years and watched as they went from a phone maker to the maker of not only phones but also operating systems. If you look at the differences between Series40 and Series60 (and defuct Series30 and Series80) you start to see how they could quite easily manage these different product lines while maintaining uniformity about their interfaces and typical device behavior. Maemo has been also been around for a while now and it behaves very much like you would expect a Nokia device to behave.
From a end user perspective you really don't have to worry, underneath they may have different OSes but the devices will interop across the board and software support for these platforms will continue to grow. Just look at how big the Java market for J2ME Series40 devices still is year after Symbian took the position as their flagship OS.
If it was any other manufacturer I would be worried like you are, but people often forget the size of Nokia when they make their ill informed doomsday predictions.
You can now get Swype functionality on the OVI store for free![]()
Dang! Impressive stuff to think you can run Anna on the 5800.
Just updated my 5800 to Symbian Anna. It's quite cool

Does everthing work with the custom firmware?
Define everything? Everything I used to have on the phone works fine. I can install Nokia N97 and X6 apps as well.
Im downloading the new firmware now will install it tonight .
Cool. When I loaded the original Latino firmware a few menu options were in Spanish, so just highlight it and rename it to English.
I didn't reset or format my phone when I did the update today and it worked fine, but just do a backup before hand to be safe.
