Nokia 6110 Navigator

Thanks for the info Dennis.

I am due for an upgrade next month & I will rather go for this one & not the N95.

Any Info as to what dealers have stock? Went to a MTNSP in town - Strand St, and he did not even have any info on the phone yet, though the phone is being advertised.

We are suppose to receive them on the 17th august but i suggest u wait till the end of august. i suppose mtn advertises the phones before we receive stock to build up hype and interest:D

Thanks Reaper

Will have to wait until 5th September anyway.

.... can't wait for this phone. If it's free on a Mycall contract, it will be a really big hit. About time we had some "affordable GPS"!:D:D:D

MTNSP are clueless

Hi queried about the phone from MTN SP about 3 weeks ago as it was in their mag in stores. No stock and don't know when. Called Century City, also no clue, so finally managed to get hold of someone in JHB head office I think who said end of July.... fat chance. Still nothing. Was going to post on hellopeter, but was beaten to it... response from MTN SP is that they don't have phone from manufacturer. However Nokia has released it to MTN.

Biggest joke is that iTalk cellular have stock.....

Oh well, if you say 17th then I'll take you up on that offer. Keep one for me! I'm already due for an upgrade

I know my father ordered one from NashuaMobile last week. It is one that they suggested, so I imagine they had stock. I'll see if it arrives this week.

Hi Navigator fans the Nokia 6110(nav) is avaialble in Vodashops&Vodacom4u outlets Mid August expect to see them around the 25th, the GPS software is Smart2go the same as the E90 and N95.

thanks but....

MTN is my provider of choice.... and the software is Route 66, not the same as the other nokia phones. Unless of course Vodacome / Vodaphone are doing their usual dodgy sofware / firmware overwrite.

Thanks, but I will stick with MTN on this one. If I want to port, I will have to wait till Jan 2008. Cant wait till then. I want this phone now!!:D

Yep I'm gonna wait too. As frustrating as MTN can be on the admin side of things sometimes the network is generally the most solid out of the providers, which is more important to me.

Why would VC load the Smart2Go maps, when the standard for Nokia on this phone is a new version of Route66? I have played with my old man's phone a bit yesterday, and I am quite pleased with the version of Route66 that it uses. It is more "polished" than the version I use on my N95.

All-in-all, the 6110 Nav is a very nice "slim'd" down version of the N95, and is at least FREE on most packages.

My appologies im living in a dream land the Nokia 6110 Nav is a Route 66 as GPS or AGPS and is free on Vodacom from R185 pm as of the 7th of August 2007.

True, I also saw that version which is available for N95 too. It uses a newer format of the maps and from what I gather, they are 2006 Navteq coverage. I'm waiting to get my hands on it when some one figures out......

Also heard that some people are working on a patch to get TomTom to work with N95 internal GPS.

I will have a browse around the Route66 CD that came with the 6110 Nav. I will see if it loads onto the N95, and uses the internal chip.

The 6110 gets a GPS lock outdoors VERY quickly. When I tried, it was about 3 seconds. So it seems that it uses a different chip to the N95 (SirfStarII ?)

EDIT: Added
dlk001, that link you posted seems to be just a newer v.7 version of Route66 that we are using on our N95's. The 6110 NAV uses a completely different version which is much nicer and cleaner. I would like to see if that version will be available for the N95. It would be nice if Nokia released a firmware update for the N95 that used the NEW Route66 version that the 6110 uses, but I can't see them doing that, because it would p1ss of all the N95 uses that paid the subscription fees for the Smart2Go navigation.

I am also keen for someone to get TomTom working on a N95 using internal GPS :D

Yes, That sounds like a great idea. I've seen a lot of forums with people attempting to do the same. I'm sure there is a workout.

Damn, that is quick. It would seem its a better chip if that's the case. Very nice!!!
