Any phone experts around?

I have a nokia 6111 that stopped working one day, it just didn't switch on.
We took it to the cell phone shop and they said it was the screen, they quoted R600.00 to fix it.

Anyone know where I can get a new LCD screen for the phone, as I'm sure I can do it cheaper. I have been reading around on other forums and it seems that it can be done.

The trade price of a 6111 LCD is around R330 and if its been smashed often the back board needs changing at around R110 plus labour, for a simple I'd add R60. So around R500 total cost.

However, you say that the phone does not turn on! The 6111 suffers with software problems. Take the battery out (check it is charged in another phone if you can) reinsert the battery and look with care at the screen... if you see it flash and flicker and then nothing... my guess if needs new software (firmware) flashing to the handset. Not something you can do yourself as you need special kit. I charge R60 for this but I've heard of cowboys asking as much as R250 to do the job!

Usually a faulty screen shows as blank white or an inky black patchy display, but the phone will usually turn on and work "blind" as it were. Turn on the phone minus the SIM card and wait 10 seconds then press the middle square button "if you could see the display this is accepting Start up phone without SIM card) you should hear the 6111 start up unless its been left in silent mode.

Since the 6111 has been on the market, I've never changed a "faulty" display but lots of smashed displays!!

The phone is not smashed, but does not light it up when it is switched on. However, I have no way of charging the battery, which might be flat.
