A phone with two cameras, 3G, bluetooth... Can it make coffee?

It can't make coffee, but it does have Java. Does that count?

Well, I finally got mine. Woohoo!

This thread was started four months and nine days ago, and this is the 190th reply. This is the most popular thread on the Vodacom Broadband forum, with 5 760 views!

It was a bit of a wait, but imagine if we had to wait for the vLive! version. Dang. Thanks to Vodacom and V3G for listening to us and releasing it without vLive. Also, fears of a stock shortage were short-lived. I guess they had an idea it would be popular.

First impressions: well, I was expecting a 6670 with 3G, but it's a whole lot more than that. The OS is a lot smoother and more fluid than the 6670, the camera digital zoom's real smooth, as opposed to the 6670's two zoom settings or so. It has a flash! A real one - not the always-on camera light that the Motorola E1000 has. This baby actually stores up a charge and flashes when you take the pic. White balance is adjustable on-the-fly, and generally the imaging software seems a lot more powerful. But I can't say much more than that with my 10 minutes of playtime or so.

Time to back up that 6670, erase it, and get the data onto my REAL phone!

It's interesting to note that mobile handsets (6680 and V800) hold two of the top three most active threads in a 'broadband' forum.

What does this tell us? That data is still very small compared to voice?

Or maybe converged devices (voice and data on one unit) is more popular than data cards? ( Scrnscrm need not reply to that one! :) )

Bwahahahaha. Now you are ruining all my fun ;) I still stand by decision... Maybe when GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA cards become available, I will reconsider!

To all those with a 6680:
Does anyone else feel that the phone is REALLY slow in accessing Images in the Gallery?

Mine accessed Images very quickly, could be because I only have about 8 images in it so far. I have found though that going into the menu after the phone's screen saver has actived, is very slow. Closing and opening the menu after that first attemp is then quick.

My first impression was that it was much quicker than the 6670 in accessing images.

Not sure if that's an inherent speed differentiation or because my 6670's memory was practically full.

Well, I can think of a couple of reasons for that.

* If the 6680 had been released sooner, this thread wouldn't have been so full of drooling techie geeks for the last four months.

* The freebie factor: if I had to shell out 5 big ones for this phone, 4geddaboudit. The fact that it's accessible to so many for free or a nominal fee is sure to generate some interest.

* Pretty much everyone on this forum has Internet access. Ironing out the issues with our existing 'broadband' connections is surely not to generate as much interest as "the next big thing". If someone had announced the imminent release of a 3 megabits uncapped connection for R 99 / month, you just might be looking at THE most popular thread ;)

Quick question if I may. I have enable Video Calling with my Service Provider(AutoPage - on Vodacom Network) yesterday. A buddy of mine just got his 6680 yesterday, and had Video Calling enabled as well (Vodacom network).

When I try and video call him, message displayed says "phone or network does not support..."

My phone says its has 3G coverage, even checked the 3G Map on VodaMap, and he definitely have 3G coverage as well.

Is there something that I'm missing?

Thanks

Maybe its taking time to activate it.We call it a NODE TO NODE problem. Please contact your SP again yo check.

Just called AutoPage again. Could not speak to the Consultant I spoke to yesterday, but got put through to the Tehnical Desk instead.

They told me Video Calling was not enabled at all. I apparently have to fill out a form, which they faxed to me.

Filled it out and faxed back, now I have to wait 24 hours for activation.

Sad I tell you.

I could be wrong here, but does the SP really have to do this? I know that when you log on to vodacom4me, there's a "services" link under "my account". you can just go to "modify services", and enable it yourself.

or is there something else that needs to happen? maybe someone in the know could comment? ;)

edit: you can even just punch in *111# on your phone, and there's an option there to enable it as well...

Unfortunately only your SP can make changes to your profile. VSP, as a SP, gives you web access to provision your own services. Not to sure if Autopage have the same capability.

Vodacom is the network provider, while Autopage, in this case, is your service provider. Can get confusing sometimes :)

i just thought that if i can do this on prepaid, surely contract customers can too.

AutoPage definitely doesn't do this. Anything that want changed, I have to fill out a form. Then I have to wait at least 24 hours before it gets done.

I've learnt my lesson for next contract renewal :D
