Tell that to a guy who paid three and a half big ones for it. Not very assuring. Think i'll get version 4 instead.
 
I am still running the 3.xx series. Happy with it :)
 
This is what the new firmware supposedly does.

Nokia 6680 v5.04.07

New features made to MCU SW v5.04.07:
- AD-15 audio adapter support added.
- Browser cache cleared every time when exit from browser.
- Change of manual NW selection when ePLMN is used.
- Better preset eq value introduced for unknown headsets.
- MP3 filename length support increased to 256 characters.

It goes like this:
The APN settings provided by Vodacom includes a proxy set to 196.6.128.12
When any user agent connects it identifies itself. If it identifies itself as Opera the proxy works. If it identifies itself as Internet Explorer or Mozilla (Firefox) you get a blank page in return. Ironically Opera gets a blank page, probably because it identifies itself as Internet Explorer by default. I tested this on the pc version. When set to IE or Mozilla through Vodacom proxy, blank page, set to Opera and... bob's your uncle.

To get around this either get Opera to tell us how to identify Opera Mobile as Opera, or simply clear the proxy settings under advanced in your APN settings.
 
I found the same with Netfront 3.3 on my K-Jam, had to clear the proxy to get past the blank pages. Are still getting blank pages on IE in the K-Jam.

Have reported this to the VAS guys.

The strange thing however is that Opera Mini works. Probably identifies as Opera. I think this is something to do with Vodacom's Proxy, the whole thing works perfectly on MTN's Proxy. DAP also works.

Just got my 6680 on my mom's contract on mtn, and am using it with my vodacom sim. Will vodacom do a firmware upgrade on it, and how much will it cost?

When i first got my 6680, end of october, opera worked fine but a couple of weeks later it didn't wanna work so i played with the settings and eventually got it to work by just removing the proxy adress from the settings, my profimail also didn't work if the proxy was filled in.

Most probably not, unless they don't check the IMEI. Take it to a MTN shop or alternatively to Nokia, shouldn't cost anything.

Yes, Nokia in Greenpoint will do it. Takes about an hour or two.
My colleague and I took ours there. His 6680 was an MTN one, which Nokia upgraded, didn't cost a cent. Mine was a Vlive! one, so they sent me next door to the Vodacare shop who also did it in about two hours, didn't cost anything either.

Just remember to tell them there is something wrong with the phone. They seem to want a reason for the "repair job". My bluetooth was crashing all the time. That seemed to be a good enough reason.
 
First name, last name swapping

Anybody else irritated by the fact that in Messaging, the lists always display Last name, First name? You can't set it the right way around. Contacts has that setting, but not Messaging.

(Obviously, this will only be like this if you have actually stored the first and last names in the separate fields provided by Contacts manager)

you can change this in the settings.

You can change the way it is display in Contacts, but when I receive a SMS from Pieter Pan, it will always show as Pan Peter in messaging
 
hmm, I just checked my messages, it only turns some of the around in Messages. Strange
