Nokia 7 plus

@andreh are you still on May 2018 security patch or did you eventually get the update to August 2018 security patch?

I'm stuck on the May 2018. The going theory is they stopped rolling out updates on some devices to focus on pie. If you go here, select the Nokia 7 Plus from the dropdown, and look for your SW ID, you'll see which security update is out for your phone.

Hmm yeah I thought the SW ID was just the build number for that particular release so like if you are on May 2018 then your SW ID will be 00WW_2_22A but when you update to August 2018 it will change to 00WW_2_22M.

So yeah its a mystery hey. One support person has told me that its defs not correct to still be on May 2018 as South Africa region has been updated to August 2018.

But then a different support told me what you said that different devices just get updates at different times.

Just feels like a massive over complicated way to roll out security patches. Like a major release like 9.0 Pie sure roll it out as a slowly as you want but to have small security patches being held back on certain devices just doesn't sound right.

But can there be so many different SW IDs? I was also under the impression that the SW ID is for the current release...

Yeah I am kind of getting pi$$ed off, one of the main reasons I bought this phone was for the Android one experience and getting updates immediately, still stuck on the May update..

Yeah, I'm with you there. It is rather disappointing. Even more of a disappointment when I was updating my Redmi Note 4 to get ready for selling, and a Sept security update comes through.

Indeed it is quite annoying considering it was a selling point of the phone to receive updates as they became available by google. Like a Pixelesque experience in terms of updates.

But ya that's not where we are at too be honest I just want the Pie update because the only issue I have with the phone currently on May 2018 update is the slightly UI/animation choppiness and this is reportedly solved in 9.0 Pie with Sept 2018 security patch.

On the plus side though Pie is available on so few devices at the moment I don't feel so bad about that but yeah as @mr_norris said not getting security updates is quite pathetic considering each SP averages like 100MB in size which means there probably aren't any huge breaking changes in those SP's so it just baffles me why Nokia would be holding those updates back.

That UI / Animation choppiness really grates my naartjie. I don't understand how a phone with the SnapDragon 660 has a problem like that, where my Redmi Note 4 (Which has a SnapDragon 625) ran butter smooth when I was running Lineage OS. That's my biggest gripe with the phone really.

Nokia, I hope you are listening to your customers here. I'm also getting really annoyed at the lack of updates. Even my R999 Nokia 1 has received all its security updates on time. What gives? :(

That's quite legit hey like it doesn't even seem to be all the nokia models not getting updates i've seen complaints about the Nokia 7 Plus, 6.1 Plus and 3.1 in terms of people complaining about a lack of security updates.

@mr_norris yeah its really a pain but what makes it worse is Nokia and people on Pie are reporting its been resolved in 9.0 Pie so like it makes it that much more painful that they are not rolling updates when it can fix a big complaint with the device.

From what i've seen reported 9.0 has introduced some issues for some people but they mostly seem to be "I can't find feature x" like most complaints seem to be with OS changes in Pie itself rather than Nokia introduced issues. So not really sure why they are holding it back but yeah I don't have access to their error logs that get sent to them there might be some major problems with the release.

As for not rolling security updates to all devices that one I have no idea. I've tried everything under the sun that Nokia recommends (remove SIM, wipe carrier data, restart with no sim, turn off location, check for updates, erase wifi, bluetooth and mobile settings restart without sim look for updates etc.) Just can't seem to get it to give me the August 2018 SP OTA.

Then I go to Nokia support and i'm like hey my device is on May 2018 it should be on August 2018 so can I just manually download the zip files and force the June, July, August SP updates and Nokia is like nope may void warranty and we won't give you support if your IMEI number says you are supposed to be on May 2018 and you contact us and you want help and we see you are running August 2018.

Never quite figured out what "may" void warranty meant. Like will it or won't it you know

My Wife just had terrible service from Nokia with her 7 Plus, I don't think I'll be giving them a try anytime soon and I was considering them.

Her 7 Plus had a camera fault, it was not focusing, because she had no proof of purchase, as she was given it as a gift from her Father who bought it for her while in SA on holiday they quoted her R2150 to repair at a Nokia Authorised repair center, this was to replace the camera module. She did not even try and dispute the guarantee claim or anything and agreed to the quote.

Anyhow 2 months later, numerous calls back and forth to get updates after she was initially told the repair would take 1 week and it still was not repaired. Wife finally had enough and just collected it on Saturday to be told, if you give us more time (this after 2 months) we will be able to sort it out. She refused and then found out they have damaged the LCD, scratches and white marks at the bottom under the display that comes through as just white patches on the display.

So she brought it home after complaining. I tried to get hold of a contact number for someone at Nokia SA to complain and then get told by the online chat service, oh sorry we can't give you a contact number your only option is an e mail.

This after 2 months to get a camera module replaced, which was never replaced..............

The joys, with service like that they won't get any repeat business from me. A pity as Iv always liked stock Android.

So now she has a nice expensive paper weight, maybe it will be used as an expense wifi Hot Spot, lol

What repair centre?

It was one in Durban

When she contacted Nokia online chat with the issue 2 months ago she was given a list of Authorized repair centers in Durban.

Yeah, she just told me now as she got home she managed to eventually find a number and called, she got told they would pass the info on to a Manager to look into it...........

That was apparently early this morning already, but at this point I'm just writing the whole story off.

I'm glad I took extensive pics of the device and even a video before it went in, so there can be no way they can try and say it was checked in like that.

The Authorised repair agent's excuse is Nokia had no parts this was for 6 weeks even after they told my wife when she booked it in and and she checked with them that Nokia SA did have the parts in SA and at most the repair would take a week. And then for 2 weeks they were "trying" to remove the LCD but they were battling and first had to watch a video on how to........

Hi Guys
Currently as of this evening I'm busy liaising with Nokia (after they replied to an e mail) on the matter and am submitting pics of before and video etc etc, so I'm not going to post the name as yet, they have asked for time to look into it and I'll give them a reasonable time frame even though my wife has been waiting 2 months already.

Ill wait and see then update with any progress.
