Nokia announce free Maps (smart2go) solution

Hey hotentot_UK, do u know where I can find TomTom for Windows Mobile 5 and a crack for it? Because Smart2Go with SA map serves no use on WM5 devices!

Thx, Adaan

Found this for you - I have not tested it.

TomTom 6.030 build8320

Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/15367290/TT6.030build8320.rar

No maps in this download.

Extract the rar file to your computer, after extraction, you will see
"TT6.030build8320" folder, open it and copy all contents to the root of your memory card (use card reader). Insert Memory card to your PPC then soft reset (reboot).
If it does not auto install, browse for 2577 folder on your PPC and tap "ttn.cab" and follow instructions.
After installation, you then copy Maps of your choice to the root of your memory card. i have posted the link to the SA maps above

Look for a Holux 240 Slim or similar on eBay. With international express shipping it works out to be R650. And it's as small as a USB flash drive.

100% compatible with TomTom. It also have a great international brand reputation.

Can't speak for Smart2Go since it doesn't have great SA maps I've heard, and is not supported on Symbian UIQ3.

I finally bought a Nokia LD-3W GPS receiver direct from a supplier (R990 inclusive of VAT). It works well and I will recommend it for anyone, especially with a Nokia phone - it takes the normal Nokia phone charger, comes with a car charger for the unit (which will also charge your phone), and has a standby time of 22 hours. It also uses the Sirf III chip.

I have used it successfully with TomTom and Smart2Go. Before I got the unit, I liked Smart2Go, but the "free" version of TomTom (see below) has full voice guidance and does not use your data connection. It is superb, as good as my satnav in my car.

I also managed to find a list of every available TomTom map (including South Africa). Check it out:

I have got handymap,Ai Gold, TomTom6 mobile and Route66 on WM5 PDA, Personally I like the TomTom more, nicer menus and very professional.

I also have got TomTom and Route 66 on my N73, Even there I like TomTom6.

TomTom is just more professionally rounded off than Route66.

Regards

Hi Jalize, yes, I agree. Although I can't find SA maps for my Route66 to judge it, TomTom definitely seems to be the best. User Interface is easy to use, friendly, and powerful. The SA maps also seem quite detailed and up-to-date.
Also I've heard that TomTom got most of the European GPS Navigation market.

smart2go subscription

To anyone who has purchased the smart2go navigation subscription:

1. Do you know if it is specific to your IMEI number?
2. What happens if you format your phone?
3. If you changed phones, can you use the same subscription?

I'm also using all three (Handymap AI Gold, Route 66 and Tomotom ) on my wm5 device. Tomtom is very nice, but there's just 1 problem I came across. When looking for a street you have to first enter the city/suburb name. If you don't know exactly which suburb the street is in you're at a dead end. For example, this weekend I had to go somewhere in Centurion. When I entered Centurion, I got nothing. I had to search in Route 66 first and only when I entered the exact suburb name in Tomtom I found the street. Any way of avoiding this? If I can just get this sorted out, I think I'll use Tomtom more often. By the way, you can download celebrity voices for Tomtom which is well..... entertaining. Try it out.

I also have that problem with TomTom. A bit frustrating, aspecially when it comes to city suburbs.

Where can one download additional voices for TomTom?

1. Yes
2. Just go onto the nokia site and downlaod the uploader software, and reload onto your phone, no worries
3. This is where you worry ... simple answer no .. seems like smart2go don allow you to have the subscription across phones ...

I made the observation today that the data on WM5 appears to be exactly the same as that used in Microsoft's mapping website (maps.live.com)
