Nokia delivers - again

I eagerly await the release of the Samsung Innov8 in SA. Its already in Bulgaria for crying in a bucket.

Sorry, but that E71 is aweful looking. Regardless of the features, its an eyesore that I wont buy...

I had the E61... and it had a little voice recording button on the right side that was so sensitive... the thing kept on recording me swearing at it. I sold it because of that button. If this thing has the same "feature"... beware!!!

I have been using the E61i for a lil' over a year now it's such an awesome piece of machine. It hav that Rec button just below the volume keys but I hardly ever accidentaly press it. As a matter of fact it has never-ever recorded stuff on its own.

Yes - sounds like you are one of those where the look of the phone comes first and then then rest. Might I suggest an iphone ?

Look is most certainly a factor - I am a narcisitstic, materialistic brand whore. But I dont want an iPhone strangely enough. Everyone has one. I look for specific features, then narrow down to a list that contains said features. Then pick the one that makes me all fuzzy and warm inside...

can you recommend a store please?

Nokia's list of South Africa service points are mostly Cell C/MTN/voda franchises, who don't do repairs themselves.

I gave them a call ,and it turns out some of the stores they referred me to have closed shop.

Address: Atlas Lifestyle Centre, 1st Floor, Cnr Atlas & Noth Rand Roads, Bardene
City: Boksburg
Phone: 27 11 9186851

Use t6his to find a service centre closer. Just select service point only

Mine must have been overly sensitive then... cos if I just looked at it it started recording.

There was no way to turn the feature off - it was permanently on.

and it always insisted on saving the sound file.. when you hit cancel it asked where you wanted to save it... and then you had to go find it and delete it manually... and there was no way to delete all of them in one go.

It P'd me off no end! If I listened to the sound files it just lots of cussing!

They use their own memory format so for me they are a big no-no. I do not like when I buy something and then I have to stick with that company for everything I want - it's too fruity. Same goes from Fuji/Olympus cameras with their retarded xD flash cards..

I want freedom of choice when I choose accessories like memory cards.

Not anymore tho .. the new X1 is microsd .. and they ditched UIQ3 for Windows Mobile 6 ...

This nokia has rubbish screen res (see HTC touch pro, Sony X1 and Samsung i780 res .. ) and has a wimpy little 390mhz processor .. the Samsung i780 has a 620mhz processor .. thats more than 50% extra processing power ..

Really .. before saying what an awesome phone it is .. check that its only claim to fame isnt the ability to switch profiles and edit office docs .. and setup your gmail in 1 click .. normally users of these phones are marginally tech savvy .. and a 2 screen gmail setup really isnt that much of a big deal ..

And please dont tell me that the only navigation is a four way nav key .. try the Samsung i780 mini touchpad .. or the blackberry trackball .. or even a stylus .. imagine trying to vnc to a pc with a 4 way nav key .. or navigate an office doc ...

I'm not entriely sure if WM is better than Symbian...

Nokia uses the industry standard QVGA screen on most phones and they use make use of TFT 16.7m colour technology. A lot of HTC phones are still stuck on 65k colours. Also - most nokia phones uses dual processors, like the N82 with two ARM 11s @ 332 MHz.

Business phones are strange is some ways - but once you get used to the features it is hard to adapt to something else.

The d-pad solution is a lot more durable than korean junk - and that is what puts the quality into Nokia phones - they are strong.

they must be after the golf mk1 market...
Looks might be similar but the E71 is aimed at business folks - not the drop outs of society stuck in 1974.

I know the type of people that buy phones only for their looks. They are usually found in receptionist jobs, wearing teardrop earrings, using samsung phones, saying deètien instead of dertien and they can give you a lot of steamy fun over lunch time ;) Eish, Die kaap is lekka !

I hate these press release/product endorsement articles. WTF was the point of that except for being an "advertorial"??

Only get a Windows Mobile phone if you actually are committed to using the Stylus (both hands). If you often use your phone with only one hand then stick with the Symbian phones. I made that mistake. I thought that the iPAQ (windows mobile) would be the solution to all my problems, but I had not counted on the need to always use the stylus (and don't let anyone tell you that you can use Windows Mobile with only one hand).

I haven't been in Jhb in a while, but as far as I know, there's an MTN office in Morningside, just off Rivonia Rd, that has a service repair centre.

The xperia has dual core and its 528mhz.. and phone screens are about resolution or real estate more that number of colours

And are you being serious that navigating with a 5 way jog dial is the way to go ... hmmmmm ...

Try using a Samsung i780 .. the mini touchpad is wonderfull for one handed operation .. and its WM6

The HP iPAQ 614C has a mini touch pad.. but it is not sufficient to handle all the operations of the Operating System. In my opinion Windows Mobile 6 was not designed with single-handed operation in mind, it was tacked on as an afterthought.

The mini touchpad is like using a laptop touchpad with 1 finger .. its a pad .. and a button .. dont understand what you mean when you say its not sufficient ? I currently use a UIQ3 smartphone .. and its pretty easy 1 handed, so Ill agree that Symbian is good for one handed .. but the Samsung (which we are using for testing) is the best feeling Ive ever had navigating a phone .. its awsome .. and I only do it 1 handed .. still havent even taken out the stylus ...

The Blackberry 8310 trackball is also pretty easy 1 handed ...
