I have a Nokia E51 and no specific data bundle.

It looks like I'm connecting via GPRS although the phone can do HSDPA -- anyways -- checking my bill online it looks like my phone is uploading or downloading 1Kb every 30 minutes (at a cost of 1c) if I don't physically exit my browser -- just go to the default nokia home screen leaving the browser (and connection) open...

Could this be a setting on my phone? Or a requirement from Vodacom's side to maintain the connection?

I realise the problem won't hurt my wallet but it'll cut down on the length of my itemised bill if I can work out what's going on.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Could be built into the browser. Don't supose anyone would be able to verify, I know I don't leave my browser/connection running if not in use, simple waste of batter power.

Sounds like some app doing a heart-beat of some sort. Not a Vodacom thing. But 30 minutes is too long for a normal heartbeat.

Mail client maybe?

I don't have a mail client set up... perhaps, as has been suggested, the better option is just not to leave the browser open ;)

I was just wondering whether it was a Vodacom or phone setting that could be disabled....
