Would really appreciate it if someone had some advice on how to approach and resolve this situation.
On Thursday afternoon I went and got a new E52 through Vodacom / Vodashop. Firstly, fantastic phone, been playing with it since then and battery still on half, GPS instant with life-time navigation on OVI maps, super fast UI, etc.
After opening the package, the first thing I did was check the firmware version of the phone and being V/C branded it was naturally at least 10 releases behind on the available upgrades :wtf: (We all know how super duper quick Vodacom are to ensure that they test and pass on the value of the manufacturer upgrades to their costumers......) Anyway, moving on, I then did what any self-respecting cell phone junkie would: attached it to the laptop, found the generic product codes that would allow me the latest firmware upgrades, changed via NSS, and updated via the latest NSU.
Great new programs, super quick with the 600MHZ processor, V/C Yebo branding and all that GONE!
BUT: The phone WILL NOT connect to V/C Hsdpa (3.5g) and will only connect on 3g. I have done all that I can think of, received the USSD phone set-up from VC, but all to to avail.
Thought that maybe the phone was broken, so to test I popped in a MTN sim, and presto, immediate HSDPA (3.5g) connection. V/C sim again, nothing, only 3G. Seems a bit sensless to have phone that can connect at 10MBS up and download speeds and have it connecting at 380 kbs only.
Anyone have any advice on what I can do here? The area I live in does indeed have hsdpa, so that it not the problem. Maybe something in the connection settings that I can tweak etc? Different APN name that I can use?
This is now really irritating, so any valid advice will be much appreciated.
