Nokia N8 PR1.1

Should be. Though, it comes down to the OS (in this case Symbian^3).
Though, OVI maps is as good (get traffic updates) - for now (just to get you by if Garmin is not compatible yet)
:)

@iDenTiTy...thanks.
Regarding OVI...does it have speed camera warnings?

Thanks again.

Stupid question coming up.... but I really don't want to mess this up :) Being a Vodacom phone, it's got the 059D2N9 code. Do I have to wait for this code to eventually show up in Navifirm or can I use any of the other variants i.e. 0599432 (mea12_wh) which is the silver version of Piesang's code ? Or does it first have to flashed first with the code of the variant ?

Apparently you can use any varient on the phone as unlike the older S^1 phones they firmware isn't tied to the Product code. But as someone who has flashed their own N8, it's k*k scary lol and would really recommend taking it to a Nokia Centre where they will flash with the Generic PR1.1 firmware alla no Vodacom stuff takes just 15min.

But if you do flash it by yourself readup on it alot.

Thanks. Nokia centre was my first choice. Problem is I don't see one listed on the Nokia site for Pretoria. Maybe at Vodaworld ?

/update

I see there a Nokia Care centre in Woodmead. Their care centre in Menlyn Pta (Autopage) said they send it away and it will take one to 2 weeks :( Guess I'll have to cross the Jukskei for this one... maybe visit the ProShop while I'm there :))

2 weeks? Took about 10minutes when I took mine in (wasn't sure I had done it 100% after I flashed it) Before you go to far be sure to give them a call and ask them how long it will take and if they do it onsite.

EDIT: There should be three Nokia Care points. Cellshak , APC Menlyn and Nkosi and Nokia Care Pretoria which did you go too ?
Cellshak : +27125483508
APC Menlyn : +27123487394
Nokia Care Pretoria : +27123239800

APC Menlyn. Will give the others a call. No ProShop nearby though ..... :)

/update
Cellshak : Have to book in, won't take more than 2 days...
Nokia Care : Can do while I wait, so I'll pay them a visit on Monday

Another question : Obviously after that upgrade and depending on the new ( I assume) product code, I'll be able to do future upgrades myself via OTA and/or Phoenix/Navitrim ?

Yeah from what I understand we should get the newer updates via OTA but since they don't change the Product code you wont be able to use Nokia Software Updater or OVI to update but this is all speculation as we'll only know when the new firmware is out.

Ok.... but you said in a previous post "they will flash with the Generic PR1.1 firmware alla no Vodacom stuff" . I assumed that meant a change in product code as well, since the 059D2N9 is Vodacom's

Can confirm that N8 flashed at Nokia Care Centre or flashed with generic firmware does receive OTA updates as quickly as the firmware is released worldwide.

Have you noticed any improvements? changes?
I've already downloaded the files needed, going to update using NSU sometime.
I hope it solves the Gmail push(ing) issues.

:)

Doesnt look like anything major has changed tried looking for the changelog on the net, looks like just small fixes, until the relase 2.0 :(

Hey guys, so I'm with Vodacom and (as usual) they're absolutely useless when it comes to fw updates! While others are downloading PR1.2 (v14.2), we're still waiting for PR1.1! It's really ridiculous, seeing as Nokia explicitly stated on their website that it would be available on Tuesday (the 3rd time they'v 'updated' their release date btw)!

I've flashed every Nokia I've ever had at some stage or other but I'm a little concerned about the procedure for this one. I know that the product/region code can't be changed, but that flashing follows normal procedures anyway (using Phoenix, I assume?) Also, Navifirm doesnt contain a clear description of the fw files (ie what on Earth is mea12- what lang. packs etc?) and lastly, there are no uda files downloadable...so how does one do it? Sorry for the long message! Thanks in advance! :)

MEA = Middle East/Africa - 12 being the region we're in.
:)

I checked updates on my phone and found the PR1.2 available. But I decided to update manually anyway.
I used Navifirm to download the 6 files. I used the method I described previously on this forum to update it.
Everything is cool my side.

I'm using a non-branded phone. I bought mine directly from Nokia at Vodaworld.
Maybe that has to do with being able to update now. :/

Thanks a lot- really appreciate it! Will give it a shot now and hopefully, get it working! :)

Hey again, I've finally downloaded all 6 files but phoenix refuses to flash it...Getting the following message:

"Currently selected data-package retrieving failed: 0x840818(-2079455208) - Framework: The digital signature verification failed becasue the signature file could not be found."

Does this have something to do with the absence of the .uda file perhaps?

If so, does anyone know where to get one for the mea12 Pr1.2 fw please?

Sorry for the trouble...
