I really want a black N82, but it's hard finding a shop that will ship to RSA.

Places like Amazon, Newegg, Buy.com etc. it seems do not ship electronics to South Africa. Vodacom and other SA shops only stock the silver N82.

I have found one place that say they have the black N82: www.premiumphones.co.za, for R5200 including delivery.

If Amazon could ship here then it would be about R4500 including shipping and customs VAT + duties.

I guess the difference isn't that bad for such an awesome phone, but I would like to find out if any of you know of a better deal.

I have to say that I'm a bit reluctant to use ebay, as there are asian N82's floating around which do not have Wifi.

I also checked Plemix.com, and while they say they do "Worldwide Shipping", they do not ship to South Africa.

I have a cheap black rubber cover for my N82 and it does the same thing :p - Will post pics later.

There's just something about the Black Diamond N82, which makes it almost a collectable. So I would really like to get the real thing, even though it may not make much practical sense.

I was planning on ordering the InvisibleShield full body protection for the N82, which looks pretty good (wait you're not supposed to see it right xD) based on a youtube video.

I've read about a guy who took his black N82 with InvisibleShield on an extended cycling tour in Italy. He claimed that all the dirt and rough handling didn't even make a dent, it still looked brand new afterward.

Yeah - the N82 black is very sexy - sleek, dark, and very capable. The guy that runs www.then82blog.com has one.

But I am not going to waste time scheming about how I can get my N82 sold and then get a black one. To me it means a lot more that I have had an N82 since March (shortly after they launched) while others where still stuck with old crap and drooling over soon-to-be-released pictures of HTCs and iPhones. Its 6 months now since I am in mobile nirvana and they are still drooling over jpeg files :p how fruity !

Amazon.com Customer Service to me

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

I'm sorry, but we are not able to ship Electronics items to South Africa.

I stumbled into a Vodashop today.

I asked them if they have the N82, but they only stock the silver one. Then when I asked them if they had stock, they said they didn't.

And when I asked them how much they ask for the silver one, they almost gave me a heartattack when they said R7000.

So I ordered the black N82 today on www.premiumphones.co.za for R5200 including shipping. Yeh! can't wait.

Yikes ! I got both of mine or R300pm contracts back in March and they only cost me R2000. You can now get them on cheaper contracts for a little over R1000.

Great service by PremiumPhones, I have had my N82 black for about 5 days now.

There is a slit surrounding the top edge of the phone, so a silicon skin have to be used if you are a prude when it comes to dust accumulation. So the sexy black effect is kinda lost if you use a skin, so if you can get the N82 silver on a useful contract deal then rather go for that.

I don't like contracts, I'm a prepaid kind of person :p So now I can feel that my N82 black is mine and mine alone.

And what a sweet phone is the N82 not?

Really amazing camera, I mean if you get this phone then you can throw away your other digital cameras, unless you need to capture magazine photo's of rugby matches. If you know how to operate the camera, your focussed shot will be taken and processed and the phone will be ready to take the next picture before you have even decided what to capture next. It's really fast enough.

I installed Garmin XT, and to see a phone navigating you through traffic with beautiful graphics and a nice loud voice, without the GPS being slow or giving any problems, really warms the heart.

It has Wifi. I'm using JoikuSpot Premium to create a Wifi access point on my N82. Then I use SymSMB 3.5 to access my entire phone from my computer over wifi, where my PC is connected to my phone access point. So if your laptop or PC has a wifi card, then you can get wifi speed access to your phone and microsd without needing an outside access point. Pretty sweet.

The gallery is a bit slow, but there are 3rd party apps for s60 which is much faster and more useful than the built-in gallery.

I'm listening to radio on the phone now. Yesterday I took about 100 photo's, 50 with flash, and the radio was on for about 10 hours as well, and I surfed the web over wifi with Opera mini, I also made a call or two. So you can do all that on a full battery. I had to recharge the phone from empty last night, which takes about 40 mins to get it full again.

If you get a phone like the N82, you can throw away your wife or gf, cause this baby is all you'll ever need :p

Upgrading to N82

Oh, you're making me so excited now! I'm getting my upgrade (N82) next Saturday (4th October). How did you install Garmin XT (sorry, I'm completely techno disabled :)).

Enjoy your phone - I'm sure gonna love mine!

Then you can just imagine how excited I was to buy my very first cellphone, yes this is my very first buy. For the past 8 years I have had my dad's previous Nokia 3310. Yes laugh at me.

You should be excited though, unless you have always had the latest phone. The N82 is very capable, you will be hard pressed to find a more sensible buy.

Hmm, you have to buy (download) the South African Garmin maps iso from a shop (thepiratebay). Then you have to buy (download) Garmin XT v 4.10.80 from a shop (thepiratebay) and ask instructions from your helpful shop assistant (thepiratebay) on how to install your legal (cracked) Garmin XT software :p

You can also go and search for tons of s60 software (warez) to buy (download) from an online shop (symbianapplication.blogspot.com).

I have very bad news.

I have found a dead pixel on my N82 (took a long time to find though :p).

Though this is exactly the reason why I did not buy some Chinese import, but from a South African distributer, namely PremiumPhones.

They collect and repair for free anytime during my 1 year warranty =) They say they can get my N82 fixed, so good times.

Still an awesome phone btw.

Points and laughs! Ha Ha! You must be in cell phone heaven! Oi but a dead pixel is a bit of a bummer! Hope they sort it out ;)

Haai! Daai 3310 was 'n ou staatmakertjie jong! It woke me up every morning for years and years and it handled the occasional sms or call. What more could I ask for?

Apparently there are a lot of N82, spotted in the wild, which have dead pixels. And there is a slight gap on the left top side of the phone.

Hehe, I'm going to do a bit of wifi-streamed webcam surveillance with my N82 on my bro when he's locked in his room with his gf :p

It seems that my N82 did not have a dead pixel after all, but it was just a dust particle =) Nokia Care cleaned the screen, so everything is 100% now. Thumbs up for premiumphones who collected my phone for gratis and sorted everything out in a day.

Ha ha ha, that is funny! :)

GPS

How do you find the GPS? Have you tested it yet? Does it come with a 2 year map license for SA?

What is your overall impressions now that you used it for a while?
