Nokia N95

it just occured to me that since the N95 has TV out, WiFi it could be used as a media center pc?

has anyone with any phone with these functions tried this?

scenario im thining about is this
- Server pc has all the movies/music etc
- Phone using wifi and browsing the server (with Bemused perhaps?
http://bemused.sourceforge.net/) selects movie/music etc and outputs it via
tv out to your home entertainment system, i guess sound could be output
through headphone jack.

Yeah, there are a couple of media streamers that convert to flv format for phones/wii's/ps3's so outputing ito a tv will be possible, but quality is gonna be crap unless the N95 allows a res higher than its own screen to be selected as an output. and its processing power might fall a bit short.

Check out PimpStreamer and RedKawa Media Center

Thanks for links, very interesting stuff!, will read up on it a bit later.

I didnt think about the resolution issue, would be interesting to see what happens. With all the multimedia hype around the N95 i'm sure the processing power will be enough, well i hope so:)

No prob, yeah you would think it has a lot of power, but my WM5 Eten M700 has a 400MHz ARM proc and barely manages 320*240 at 15fps audio at 64kpbs. So lets hope the N95 is more optimized for media

I read somewhere, no don't ask me where i forgot, that the N95 is going to have the fastest cpu in a mobile device....

but they didn't give spec on it... just that it was going to be really really quick...

With regards to the resolution issue, it would HAVE to be able to output at a higher resolution because you'll be very hard pressed to find a tv with the same resolution as the N95.... and if you're one of the blessed few with a HDTV, your screen res is many many times that of the n95....

so yeah, higher res is a must... but probably not anything to write home about, probably just enough to make it watch-able...

and by goodness, if anyone has one of those remotes from the movie "Click" please buddy, hit the FF button so we can get this puppy now....

been 2 months since vodacom cleared me for an upgrade and i'm still waiting.... the suspense is killin me!

Well, I had a Samsung i750 for a while which had a TV out and a res of 320*240 and all that did was scale the 320*240 up to 640*480 and it looked horrid

They should definitely enable a higher res for the output

Ugh, not good... well hopefully nokia got it right... and a ^5 to Odin for that rather interesting thought.... would be a lovely idea if the N95 has decent tv out...

Now... pls, can we end this wait and get it now.... goodness....

Shot TrueTenacity.

So today my aim is to not phone MTNSP and ask when it's gonna be released!:o

Ok, that just made my day!!!

Yes, the N95 has been here and in testing with the network ppl, spoke to someone high up at vodac 2 weeks ago and he said that they're testing it but due to NDA clauses and whatnot, he couldn't say when...

But yeah, still, April is good...
