Nokia N96...

Fsk you guys really battle to follow discussions/arguments! You just twist things when you want and battle to read entire sentences....

I am actually getting fed up having to dumb things down for the two of you to understand! Now slowly Aqua...

* Piesang said the E90 turns heads....
* I made the statement that it would due to the size of it.... if you had ever had something even 1/10th of that size in your pants you'd know this Aqua!
* Piesang then stupidly made assumptions that me saying this meant I had no clue what the E90 looked like.....
* I then, as is usual, provided proof for why I made these statements by quoting the dimensions, and in particular the weight...
*You then, even more stupidly, misquote my post and assume that I was therefore saying the E90 was useless due to it's size!

Do you follow now? I do not care if the E90 has two keyboards, a built in mouse, and a DVD writer... the fact remains that it is still big and heavy!! Hence people noticing it!! Which was why those specs were brought up in the first place....

I followed your argument but then you compared your n82 to a full qwerty keyboard mobile device and mocking it for it's size, that's like mocking me for having a 20" LCD screen and calling me blind.

Well the E90 is pathetic then as I can put my 14" laptop in my pocket and have a full qwerty keyboard too.... <shakes head>

The discussion was ABOUT SIZE!!!!!!!!!!! Hence quoting dimensions and weight were crucial!!!! <shakes head again>

We can happily move onto features if you are bored....

I carry my E90 in my pocket sometimes and it really isn't that big that it bothers me. I still dont know wht your problem is Lancelot. You are very irretating, but I think you hear that alot. Unlike you I'm used to carry bigger things around in my pants. So I dont ave to worry about the size of the E90.

I never said you dont know what the E90 looked like, I asked you if you have ever used one. Well, apparently not.

What is your problem Piesang.... the E90 is big whether you think it is in LA LA land or not! I merely stated that it is like carrying a brick in your pocket, you took offence. It is big whether you like it or not! Fsk I can't believe you are actually arguing the point! It does say a lot about you... even something factual and not at all open for interpretation will get defended by you!

And strangely enough I have read a few people saying my posts had some validity and were useful (before you dragged me down to your level).....

Oh and nice to see you use the whole bigger thing in your pants line back at me....

No-one dragged you anywhere. That is just the real you coming out. I am very good at bringing out the "best" in people.

The size doesnt bother me at all. If it bothers you then it just another "opinion".

Well, well, well miracles never cease... it appears you have EVENTUALLY learnt the meaning of the word opinion! Well done, my boy!

What is your opinion of the phone? Anything negative? The N96 and Innov8 is basically the same phone. Yet everybody speaks highly about the Innov8 and they say that the N96 is crap. I think the problem is that people were expecting too much from the N96.

well, the problem is when nokia released the n95 it was already full of powerfull features, and now everyone is waiting for nokia to release something different with greater improvement from the previous n-series, clearly n96 did not meet up with people's expectations, basiclly its not much different from the n95-8g, if u play games a lot then n95-8gb would be fine coz it has the 3D graphics accelerator, which n96 doesnt have, but if u like multimedia more then go for the n96, coz the media playback quality on n96 is excellent, looks alomost like a mini-dvd when playing the movie, sound quality also better, cpu is slower than n95-8g unfortuantelly, it lags sometimes..but the speed of usb transfering is way faster than the n95-8g, camera quality during the day is good but at the night is worse than n95-8g..and some application that runs on fp1 can not be used on n96(fp2).

Go to the smartphone show and look at the review of the N96. The N96 has got a seperate 3D accelerator and doesnt use the CPU for any 3D acceleration at all. Makes it more effecient and uses less battery power.

I would love to stay out of this and it has nothing to do with the poster but now he is having a go at someone else, so I just have to tell others to please have a search for "N96 3D Accelerator" and have a look through the results and decide for yourself....

Further to this if you have a look at the specs shown on the Nokia website you will see the following :

N95
CPU:
Dual CPU
CPU Type: ARM 11
CPU Clock Rate: 332 MHz
3D Graphics HW Accelerator

N96
CPU:
Dual CPU
CPU Type: ARM 9
CPU Clock Rate: 264 MHz

And I do not doubt some form of personal attack here so here are the links :

N95 :http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/N95
N96 : http://www.forum.nokia.com/devices/N96

Summed up on another site (on which the English is not so good but they get the point across) :

The N96 is devoid of the chip devoted to 3D graphics. It is therefore the main processor must take the load, and the rest for producing graphics. As if that were not enough, the CPU aboard N96 is slower than that equips other models of Nokia (the N95 8 GB for example, using an ARM processor 11 to 333 MHz chip devoted to 3D while the N96 uses the ARM 9 267 MHz).

but I'll let wikipedia just finish it off.
Major differences between N95 and N96

Positive
2.8 inch display with 16.7 (16.777.261) million colours (same as N95 8GB, versus 2.6" display for original N95)

Mobile TV DVB-H 1.0 receiver is built into N96
S60 3rd Edition is upgraded from Feature Pack 1 to Feature Pack 2
Symbian OS is upgraded from version 9.2 to 9.3 (9.3 is smarter and more reliable)
The Java ME engine is upgraded from MIDP 2.0 to MIDP 2.1
User data is preserved when upgrading firmware (This feature is also present on the N95-2 as v21 installs UDP base files)
Open C,C++
New Quick Office application opens all types of [Microsoft Office] files[citation needed]
Visual Radio v2.0
New version of Nokia Video Centre (Show&Edit Videos)
New release of Nokia Experience Software
(geotagging) of pictures, using the integrated GPS
Micro 2.0 HS-USB (Write 3 Mbps /Read 4.1 Mbps) (N95/N95 8G use regular USB)
MicroSD memory card slot (as in original N95, while N95 8GB has no card slot)
RSS 2.1 Reader
Downloadable maps (Google Maps, Nokia Maps, Route 66, etc)
20x camera digital zoom (N95 has 10x digital zoom)
Home Media Solution (sync with DLNA / UPnP devices over WLAN)
The FM radio is upgraded with RDS
N96 is a dual-band HSDPA (900 and 2100MHz) (while N95 was a single band (2100))
No need to open the slide for optimal GPS reception.
Thinner and lighter than N95 8GB.
N-Gage free games coupon (varies by country) [Just 1 game free].
Nokia N96 has VGA video call camera (N95/N95 8G has CIF)
Video Light - Allows illumination when recording video in the dark (the N95 doesn't have Video Light)
Back up feature - Allows the user to back up the phones settings on to a Micro SD memory card. This includes contacts, massages and media. This allows for easy restoration (the N95 doesn't have this)
Video Stabilization
Upgraded Bluetooth Stereo Audio
Stronger and super qualitative sound and 3D speakers (N95 8gp normal speakers)
FOTA Firmware over the Air
OMA E-mail Notification v1.0
OMA Device Management v1.2
WEP 2.0 support
OpenGL ES 1.1 Plugin
The Internet browser has improved usability and compatibility
Dual Transfer Mode (MSC 11)
Support SPP Bluetooth Profiles

Negative
N96 has 8x image digital zoom and 4x video digital zoom (while N95 has 20x digital zoom and 8x video digital zoom
CPU ARM9 264MHz for N96 (N95 have ARM11 332Mhz CPU )
Same battery as original N95 (950 mAh), but the N96 reportedly has a much better battery life using the same battery (Nokia N95 8GB has 1200 mAh)
No Hardware 3D graphics accelerator for N96
No infrared port
N95 classic has lens cover and much more qualitative shutter (N95 8G/N96 don't have this feature)
No manually selected MMS messaging mode. If you write a long text message it will automatically select the MMS mode which could stop the recipient from receiving the message if they do not have MMS set up on their handset. (A Nokia USA employee stated that there is an update in the works to fix this very soon[citation needed]) It's assumed that this automatic selection of MMS mode is due to Nokia's Smart Connectivity)
VoIP 2.1 support for WLAN and Cellular. However, the built-in VoIP client from N95 which allowed the end-user to make internet calls directly without installing any additional software has been removed from N96. The VoIP API which can be used by software developers in their applications, can still be used though. Of course third party VoIP applications are often neither so reliable, nor so flexible as the built-in one.
The pencil button that allows you to mark/unmark items and highlight text is not included. But this action can still be done however, by pressing and holding down the # key'.
N95/N95 8G has 2.8/5.6 Lens (N96 has 2.8/5.2)

I'd go for the n96.

My bad. I've just watched episode 68 again on the smartphone show. It has a Hardware eccelerator for watching videos and stuff, not a 3D video accelerator. Still better because it doesnt use the cpu when you watch movies etc...

Aqua there is no "persistence" involved. I have not once called for a choice of the N95 over the N96. On this occasion however I thought it best to correct something that was said regarding 3D hardware accelerators.... now you can quote as many other comments as you want about either phone but it was not about comparing both phones, the discussion was about 3D hardware accelerators!

Out of interest, may I ask what else you'd be using your phone for while watching videos on it?

From my understanding on the numerous sites referring to the lack of 3D graphics accelerator on the N96, this is currently a non issue anyway as current games on the N-Gage platform do not make use of it. However, for someone wanting a "future proof" phone it would appear it would be better to have than not have...

I Use my phone mainly for the following:

The usual calls and sms's
Internet browsing (wifi or 3G)
GPS is a must
Viewing and editing spreadsheets and word documents
Viewing pdf files
Watching a short video every now and then. Not really for movies.
Playing mp3's

I realise that 90% of phones can do that. But I prefer a qwerty keyboard.

so piseang, get ur fact right before u comment on someone else's opinion/review, or if u think u know so much why keep on asking for everybody's opinion then? but clearly from your response we can all see u don't know n96 enough, i have one in my hand and have used the software Jbenchmark to test the phone , it DOES NOT have the 3d graphic accelarator ok?

I know now that it doesn't have a 3D accelarator. Dont piss your pants.

What is your problem anyway??? There are people on here that dont mind giving their opinion. And like I said before, I've already made up my mind. I'm going for the Xperia. And the X1 does have a 3D graphic acelerator so it is "Future Proof"

It does more than 99% of other phones out there.

So why would I even bother to look at what other phones out there can do???

Get a life man. At least I admit I was wrong. Which makes me more man than you ever can be.

why would you even bother to look at what other phones out there can do???thats the question u should ask ur self, U asked for our opinion on the n96, and when people told u the facts, u don't appreciated and go on argue with everybody that n96 its the best(just because its newer doesn't mean its the best), and now u telling us that u don't care about what other phone can do??? your are contradicting your own statement, clearly you the one that got problem not me, anyways, u can go carry on, coz i don't feel like to talk to someone that got psychological problems, maybe you should go and have your brain checked out 1st then come back.

Precisely, I can say that because I've watched lots of reviews on the Xperia since I've asked the opinion of other people on here. If I've seen the reviews before hand then I wouldn't have asked for anyone's opinion.

If you want to insult someone go insult your wife, if you have one.
