Nokia vs Blackberry

Okay, so as mentioned on the forums before, my Blackberry Curve 8900 was a piece of rubbish.

But, before judging I decided to give it in for repairs incase it was just that one. So, after 2 weeks I was told that the phone cannot be repaired, and will be swapped out for a new one.

I got the new one 2 days ago.

And the verdict is....

RUBBISH! :)

The phone is brand new, or at least "newly refurbished". The camera module was skew so I had to force it back into place, and the back plate cover doesnt fit right.

On top of that the LCD screen is too "tight" so if you press any buttons near it the liquid moves in the screen.

And finally, after only 2 days, today i tried to make a call and it just wouldnt do anything when i pressed numbers - just sat there and hang.

So, after TWO Blackberries, I can now safely say they're trash and I'll be getting a Nokia and iPhone next.

Thank You and Goodnight.

LOL! At some of the posts. NOKIA may bring out new models often BUT they do support older ones, N82,N95 and N95-8GB recently got new firmwares. If you're going to be doing a lot of Emailing and Twittering the BB is for you all the way, otherwise get the NOKIA,NOT the E63 though, try getting a E71 or E52, the E63 is totaly outdated with its 3G at just 384kbps,and lack of GPS, its like a N81 with a QWERTY keyboard realy. Get a E71 or E52 with a 1GB Data bundle and you're set. You dont pay for Office Apps in the Eseries as far as i know,i may be wrong though please correct me if i am. Great thing about NOKIAs S60 Symb. is being able to install virtualy any Java app and not just Symbian apps.

Oronte I'm surprised you are getting decent speeds with BIS on MTN. Before the 8520 Blackberry mass migration I was getting up to 900kbits a second, now I don't get over 140kbits/s. Its rediculous! I love my BB but on MTN it is now rediculously slow. Vodacom have sorted their nonsense out coz my wife's 8520 on Vodacom is always faster than my Bold which is supposed to have 3G speeds. Whatever. It is painful lately.

How do you measure the speed? I used to use speedtest from xtreme labs but lets be honest it does a pretty bad job.

I do use speedtest but I used to be able to download MP3s at 110KB/s, now the highest speed I get downloading any file is about 15KB/s but honestly its usually below 10KB/s. I used to be able to listen to 128k streaming audio now I don't even bother trying. :-(

a blackberry is one fugly phone ... Its size is not easy on the pocket...one thing with nokia is good support s/w updates and h/w backup. Besides free data use up to 2.9meg (?) per day and push email (well i get my emails pretty much on the fly without push) ... I dont see the point of getting one. The spec sheet is sub par to most phones on the market.

The blackberry isnt easy on the pocket? What kind of trousers are you wearing that phone size becomes an issue?

There is no daily limit for the blackberry - some say there is an attachment or file download limit of 2.9mb per email but I've not come across it myself so I cant comment.

It is ugly though - fortunately I'm good looking enough that I can pull it off. :D

sure they will fit into your pockets, just as a calculator would ... :) ... rather uncomfortably

Not sure - turns out my calculator is rather large compared to any phone :D

Not a single fact in there. Bold and Curve are way better looking than anything in the E series (which is meant to copy the blackberry design anyway). Nokia needs more software updates since they release every new phone with a tonne of bugs, but they don't give you major new features with software updates (Blackberry does). I don't understand h/w backup - you can easily backup EVERYTHING on the Blackberry (including your browser history and custom dictionary).
The Bold, Curve, and Storm all use 600+ mhz processors, the fastest Nokia uses a 400mhz processor. The screen resolution is twice that of all but 2 Nokia phones and many have light sensing screens. Nokia makes many phones far larger than Blackberries. RAM is about the same. How are Blackberries subpar specwise again? 2.9mb is a limit only for individual attachments (not for browser downloading) and that applies to the free service (you can pay for it as you do on other phones and be unlimited in size). There is no limit to how many different files you can download.

You're right, hopefully they fix that soon. Although it only applies to downloads from the browser, actual browsing is still fast and downloading attachments is also fast.

u got the smaller one Bwana ... the curve is bigger than the bold or is that the other way around?
Mine's the bold - my missus has the new curve and it's considerably smaller.

agh! now im confused ... LOL :) ... because the one you have my mate has one like that, but i remember seeing some really big ass sized BB's at the outlet in vodaworld ... ah well maybe one day ill become brainwashed and get a BB :) ... not anytime soon though

so tell me Oronte what phone competes with my N97 spec wise from BB?

All Bolds, Curve 8900, and all Storms not only compete but have some better specs than you N97:
All of the above have a considerably faster processor (624mhz vs your 400mhz)
PAY ATTENTION: The size of the N97 is 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm and weighs 150g vs the Bold 9700 109 x 60 x 14 mm which weighs 122g, the Storm 2 is still thinner but a little heaveier 112.5 x 62.2 x 14 mm and 160g. So stopp claiming that Blackerry's are huge, the N97 is far larger. They are larger than most normal feature phones but if you want a decent typing experience it's the price you pay.
Sreen res is slighly less and only slightly less (most BB's have 360x480 vs N97 360x640 and the N97 is unique amongst Nokia screens). Most have smaller screens but make up for it with incredibly comfortable keyboards.
Most Blackberry's have 256mb RAM vs your 128mb.
Data connections are exactly same (HSDPA speed and Wifi)
The only thing you have that's genuinely better is internal storage and camera - Blackberry cameras are awful, no contest there.

So please tell me how your extremely overpriced N97 (which costs same as Bold and Storm) but lacks any data plan for the price is better?

PS Crazy Cat Blackberry's still faster (624mhz on 5 top and middle range models vs 600mhz on one mid range Nokia) and you honestly want to compare that awfully speced phone with a Blackberry?

I dont see how you can compare any non-touch BB with an N97.The current crop of BB's go head to head with the E63,E71 & E72...& maybe the E75...:wtf:
