Hey guys,

I'm sorry if this comes across as a super noob question but I've hear a lot about IS (internet solutions) and how ISP's like afrihost use them. But does an ISP like Mweb also use IS or do they use another company?? I'm interested because I'm trying to decide which ISP to chose and which is the most reliable and how Telkom and IS fit into the picture...

AFAIK afrihost uses IS and MWEB uses their own network.

I could be wrong though...

Stevolvo is right. Mweb uses their own network. Most of the small ISP's use IS or Telkom (SAIX). Not to say the ones that use IS aren't reliable, by the way. It seems to be at least partly geographical. In my corner of Pretoria, Mweb has been nothing short of awesome. Full speed pretty much all of the time, no shaping or any such nonsense, except when Seacom goes down, and even then only slight disruptions. However people in Joowannisbek and Cape Town have had bad experiences. So yes, it varies. For example I know in the north (Northern Gauteng to Limpopo) in smaller towns, IS is almost useless, down about half the time and when it's up it's intermittent, while Mweb rocks. It seems in JHB area IS is best. You'll have to take trial accounts and find out basically.

Hi Brandcaul,

Here at MWEB, we run our own network which utilises Seacom and SAT-3. If you would like to test our network, I can arrange for a 7 day trial account for you. Drop me a PM with your contact details in order to set it up.

Regards,
MWEB Guy
